Nine-Year-Old Girl Allegedly Sexually Assaulted At La Habra Elementary School

La Habra, CA — A nine-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted by three of her young classmates two times in one day at Las Positas Elementary School in La Habra.

The girl’s mother reported the sexual assault and Kelly Julian went before the school board on Thursday night to speak about the incident, reports KLTA News.

Julian addressed the school board to say that her daughter told her that three boys, who were also in fourth grade, had touched her breasts inappropriately on two different occasions.

The incident occurred about three weeks ago. Julian, like any concerned mother, reported the incident, but the school decided not to punish the boys. All three boys wrote apology letters to the nine-year-old girl that admitted they touched her private parts.

LAist notes that Superintendent Susan Belendardo defended the three boys, saying:

“They’re children. They’re nine-years-old…They didn’t realize that what they were doing was something that they shouldn’t have done.”

Julian spoke with KTLA News, saying, “Originally the principal told me that my daughter needs to stand up for herself.” Because of the response Julian has received from the principal and the superintendent, the worried mother chose to confront the school board about the issue on Thursday night. She stated:

“The message you continue to send is that not only will you allow sexual assault of 9-year-old little girls, you will ignore parents and hope it will just go away.”

It is not clear what kind of action the school board can take in the matter. A police report was filed regarding the alleged sexual assault of the nine-year-old girl, but no action has been taken and the case has since been closed.

Do you think the three boys should be punished for inappropriately touching their classmate, or sis they simply not know any better?
