Cinderella and Four Knights actress Park So Dam recently gave a tell-all interview about her journey to becoming one of K-Drama’s stars on the rise. The 24-year-old actress recalled what inspired her to get into acting and some of her early roadblocks to becoming a Korean drama star at The Medici 2016, a cultural event in Seoul designed to encourage dialogue between aspiring performers and experts, Soompi reports.
Park revealed that if it wasn’t for the musical Grease, she probably would have never become an actress.
“When I was in high school, I went to see the musical Grease and thought the artists looked so happy, singing and sweating as they ran around the stage,” she said. “That’s when I decided what I wanted to do. I thought, ‘I want a life as fun and happy as theirs,’ and began dreaming of acting.”
But the road to stardom wasn’t easy for So Dam. She faced a lot of early struggles as she tried to get into the acting business. One of the biggest hurdles she faced was rejection.
“When I was starting out, for two and a half years I went to nearly every audition a rookie actor could go to. In almost a month I auditioned for 17 projects. I was rejected every time, so that really brought me down,” she added. “I was pondering a lot on what it was that I was good at, so instead of choosing my projects, I often ended up doing things here and there.”

All of the hard work paid off and Park So Dam has come a long way from being a struggling actress. According to Yibada, the Cinderella and Four Knights star has appeared in both Korean movies and TV shows. Some of her film roles include appearances in The Priests (2015), an action thriller, and The Throne (2015).
Four Knights isn’t her first role in a K-drama on TV either. She previously starred in a show on WBS called Beautiful Mind.
During the interview at The Medici 2016, Park So Dam also talked about Korean actresses that she looks up to, Soompi reports. She said that her main role model was Kim Hye Soo, a longtime actress who has appeared in movies like 3 Extremes II (2002), The Thieves (2012), and Coin Locker Girl (2015), according to IMDb.
“I have tremendous respect for her. I think it’s so cool that her acting experience covers such a wide spectrum, and I want to be like that.” Park said of Kim Hye Soo.

The theme for this year’s Medici was “Nothing is True,” and during the interview, Park So Dam shared her thoughts on the slogan.
“Truth for me is enjoying whatever I do. My goal and purpose is to live an enjoyable life. I’m always enjoying what I do because if I’m not having fun, viewers won’t either.”
Cinderella And Four Knights stars Park So Dam, Jung Il-woo, Ahn Jae-hyun, Lee Jung-shin, Son Na-eun, and Choi Min. Park So Dam plays Eun Ha Won, the lead character, who feels alienated from her home life after the death of her mother.
