‘Dexter’ Returning To TV In Marathon, And Showtime Needs Fan Input!

Dexter, one of the most popular TV shows in the past decade, is returning to Showtime, its original network, reports Deadline!

Before Dexter fans, of whom there are plenty, get too excited, it should be noted that no new episodes are actually being produced. To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the show being on the air, though, Showtime is organizing a marathon of the show consisting of its 10 best episodes, as determined by the fans themselves.

Showtime is making a huge deal concerning its poster child show returning, too. They even put together what most sources agree is an excellently made trailer for the entire show that profiles the revolutionary premise of Dexter. Whether you watched the show when it was on or not, the trailer is definitely worth a watch. It features some pretty cool effects and contains some powerful lines. And in case you haven’t seen the show, the trailer is spoiler-free.

[WARNING: Some Dexter spoilers follow. It’s a really great show, so, if you haven’t watched it, it is highly advised you open a new tab and stream all 96 episodes of the show before reading on. Dexter is available in its entirety on Netflix. Go ahead, I’ll wait. Finished? Alright, let’s continue.]

The trailer does not touch upon the overarching storyline’s most important events, like Rita’s death, Dexter’s falling for Hannah, or Deb’s big discovery, but the marathon definitely will. In fact, it’s a fair bet that it will focus on some of those shocking milestones.

The marathon is far from unexpected coming from Showtime, as the network has been talking about Dexter returning in some form or another for years now. They have always included as a footnote, however, that they would not be open to bringing the show or a reboot to the screen unless Micheal C. Hall was willing to reprise his role as Dexter Morgan, something to which Hall has not yet agreed. He has never explicitly dismissed the possibility of his return to the show’s universe at some point in the future, and he has even gone back and forth between saying he is excited to go back and not, but he has always said he needs more time before he is to make a return to the role, if he is to do so at all.

Fans’ clamoring for a Dexter return is even more pronounced given the cliffhanger series finale, which fans and critics almost across the board agree was a big disappointment.

Dexter‘s return to the airwaves this October will not exactly satisfy the need for the show actually returning with all-new content, but it is really the next-best thing for Dexter fans hungry for more. An interactive poll resulting in 10 hours of the best Dexter‘s eight seasons had to offer returning to TV? Yes, please! True, those who have watched Dexter (and if you haven’t, don’t spoil it for yourself by watching the marathon!) will miss out on the massive twists and huge surprises Dexter was so good at delivering, but the opportunity of returning to the Dexter-verse to admire the superbly written dialogue, extraordinary production values, and infectious character-building is an awesome way for Dexter faithful to get their fix.

To join in on the fun, you can head over to the Dexter episode bracket on the official Showtime site and vote on which installments you think should advance to the next round.

What Dexter moment floats your boat? Doakes’s untimely death? Louis’s untimely death? LaGuerta’s untimely death? Harrison’s gnarly treadmill faceplant? Find out if the Dexter fan base agrees with you by casting your vote! The current round ends in five days, so make sure to vote before then.

Although the bracket will determine the single most popular episode, the top ten will be returning in the marathon on October 1.
