Ariana Grande Slammed Over Doughnut Licking Scandal During VMAs Interview [Video]

Ariana Grande found herself feeling the heat over that infamous doughnut licking scandal at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards.

More than a year has passed since Ariana hit the headlines after surveillance video leaked of herself and then boyfriend Ricky Alvarez licking doughnuts on display in a bakery, but it looks like the world isn’t ready to forget just yet.

Grande found the scandal coming right back to haunt her when she attended the 2016 MTV VMAs on August 28, where red carpet host Charlamagne Tha God wasn’t quite ready to let the doughnut moment go, awkwardly jabbing Ariana about the scandal during a pre-show interview.

“Now look, you can’t go around here licking no pastries tonight,” Charlamagne told Grande during the VMAs red carpet interview, which clearly took Ariana by surprise as she put her hand on her hip amid the pretty awkward moment.

However, Ariana appeared to handle herself with class amid the doughnut question, simply replying to the MTV VMAs red carpet host, “Oh, okay. I’ll take notes.”

“Yes, no pastry licking,” Charlamagne then said, to which Grande added, “I’ll keep it in mind.”

Fans watching the MTV VMAs live stream were clearly just as taken aback by the awkward question as Ariana herself, slamming Charlamagne for bringing up Grande’s past doughnut scandal during the big musical event.

“Why do interviewers feel the need to keep bringing up the donut incident to Ariana when you could talk about important things like her music,” Ariana fan @colouredbass tweeted out in support of Grande after the doughnut drama once again reared its head.

“Why the f*** did he bring up the donut thing again by saying ‘no licking pastries tonight’ to Ariana?” Twitter user @privatebocas added, blasting the VMAs red carpet host for being “so rude and childish” towards Ariana.

However, other Grande fans opted to take the high road amid the latest round of doughnut controversy.

“I’m just gonna accept the donut thing and think of it as Ariana’s legacy so I don’t get mad about it every time an article jokes about it,” Grande fan @ArianasKehlani tweeted out.

Ariana Grande clearly didn’t let all the doughnut drama ruin her night, as she took to the VMAs stage to perform her new single “Side to Side” with Nicki Minaj and also posted a number of fun videos and photos from her time at the award show to Instagram.

Ariana even took to the social media site to show some love for Britney Spears, who also performed at the 2016 VMAs, posting a video of herself singing along to Spears’ track “Private Show” backstage at the awards at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

Grande’s doughnut licking scandal first hit the headlines way back in July 2015 after video footage showed the “Into You” singer and Alvarez licking doughnuts in a bakery without buying them while Ariana could even be heard uttering “I hate Americans” and “I hate America.”

Shortly after the leaked footage surfaced, CNN reported that Grande took to YouTube to apologize to her legions of fans in a video where she admitted that she was “disgusted” with herself after seeing the candid doughnut licking footage.

“Seeing a video of yourself behaving poorly, that you have no idea was taken, is such a rude awakening that you don’t know what to do,” Grande told fans in the video uploaded to YouTube. “I was so disgusted with myself.”

“Not here to make any excuses or justify my behavior, because I can’t,” Ariana continued. “I’m just here to apologize.”
