Freddie Combs, 540-Pound ‘X Factor’ Contestant, Wows Judges [Video]

Singing reality shows prove time and time again that amazing voices can be hidden in interesting packages. Freddie Combs — a 540-pound minister from Greenville, Tennessee — wowed Simon Cowell, Britney Spears, Demi Lovato, and L.A. Reid last night with his rendition of “The Wind Beneath My Wings.”

Combs came out to the stage in an oversized wheelchair and told the judges that he once weight 920 pounds.

Combs said:

“Today through exercise and proper diet, I have lost almost 400 lbs… I hope the judges will look past my exterior and give a fat boy a chance.”

And the judges did give this fat boy a chance.

Demi said: “I feel a lot of emotion behind what you’re singing.”

Britney added: “I find your voice shockingly amazing.”

Simon was also impressed but wanted to make a deal with Freddie Combs before sending him to the next round.

Simon said:

“When I heard you sing, I had a vision in my mind of you standing, singing that song – healthy, happy – and maybe you need some inspiration. I don’t think you deserve to be stuck in that chair. I really don’t. But it has to come from you. And I feel that if we’re going to go forward that we have to make a sort of deal with each other that we’re both going to work hard to sort this out. I’ll back you if you back yourself.”
