‘American Horror Story’ Season 6 Spoilers: Title Accidentally Revealed, New Trailers [Video]

Warning: This article may contain American Horror Story Season 6 spoilers.

As American Horror Story fans know, FX has kept the theme of forthcoming Season 6 a closely guarded secret. As the Inquisitr previously reported, FX CEO John Landgraf and AHS executive producer Ryan Murphy have invited fans to guess what’s in store by releasing an onslaught of teasers, most of which are red herrings.

Over the weekend, two more creepy promos were unleashed for fans to speculate about. In the first, a woman in boots and a skirt pulls a pitchfork from the grasp of a clawed hand, drags it through a pool of black slime, and slides it across a wooden floor as a female voice hums a hymn-like tune.

In the second trailer, a woman is bent over the end of a dirty bathtub, her long, black hair snaking into the shape of a question mark and the number six as it trails into the drain. Suddenly, the woman’s head spins grotesquely on her neck to reveal her face has no features except a giant mouth with pointed teeth. Cue the Psycho music and flickering lights!

Like the previous trailers, there isn’t much information pointing to the theme of American Horror Story Season 6. However, Metro reports that review website Rotten Tomatoes may have accidentally dropped the biggest spoiler yet by posting the title of the new season: American Horror Story: The Mist.

FX released a Season 6 teaser titled “The Mist” over the summer, showing a scary creature crawling toward the camera along railroad tracks. However, that trailer isn’t among the six finalists FX identified as potentially genuine on their website, as reported by Yahoo Style.

So what do we know for certain about American Horror Story Season 6? Well, Ryan Murphy revealed some tantalizing clues at PaleyFest earlier this year, according to Entertainment Tonight.

“Well, you know the interesting thing about the next season is that we’ve been working on two ideas at once, which we’ve never done.”

Murphy also hinted the show’s creative team was influenced by children and the opera while writing the upcoming season.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly last fall, the showrunner said there may be two versions of Season 6.

“Next year, we might do a fall American Horror Story and a spring. We have to decide.”

He added that two ideas and two potential seasons required the show to staff two writers rooms.

“We’re doing something we’ve never done before on a show where we’re doing two different groups of writers rooms. Some of our writers will be bouncing around, but a whole different group is coming in late August. The next thing we’re crafting up is very, very different than [Season 5]. Not smaller. Not just not opulent. More rogue and more dark.”

We also know that several past AHS cast members are going to appear in American Horror Story Season 6, according to Movie Pilot. So far, Evan Peters, Denis O’Hare, Matt Bomer, Leslie Jordan, Cheyenne Jackson, Lady Gaga, Sarah Paulson, and Angela Bassett have confirmed their involvement.

Meanwhile, MTV News reports Peters was recently photographed with what appeared to be dyed red hair in West Hollywood. This leads some to speculate the actor may be emulating evil Malachi from Children of the Corn, the classic horror film AHS paid homage to in one of its many new trailers.

Peters’ red hair was confirmed in a tweet by the Wrap’s Ada Guerin.

So there you have it: American Horror Story: The Mist, possibly two seasons and two writers rooms, children and the opera, rogue and dark, and a redheaded Evan Peters.

Does it all make sense to you now?

What do you think of the latest American Horror Story Season 6 spoilers? Do you think The Mist is really the new theme?

American Horror Story Season 6 premieres Wednesday, September 14 at 10 p.m. on FX.
