Nick Jonas cooked up quite the performance at MTV’s 2016 Video Music Awards. The youngest Jonas brother performed his song “Bacon,” but he didn’t go solo. In addition to some help from pal Ty Dolla $ign, Nick’s performance featured a bunch of celebrity cameos. According to Billboard, Nick Jonas stepped outside of the VMA venue, Madison Square Garden, for his performance. Nick started out holding a plate of bacon in the real-life kitchen of Tick Tock Diner in midtown New York City before he strolled through the eatery singing to the patrons.
Outside the diner, Jonas was joined by Ty Dolla $ign. The rapper (and his bouncing low riders) performed outside the diner at 34th St. and 8th Ave before Jonas hit an outdoor stage and the trailer of a semi outside MSG to finish out the song.
Eagle-eyed fans spotted several celebrity cameos during the diner portion of the performance, including Nick’s brother Joe Jonas and his new, VMA award-winning band, DNCE. People shared the names of all of the celebrity cameos in the performance.
In addition to DNCE and Ty Dolla $ign, Nick crooned his tune to Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover model Ashley Graham, who previously appeared alongside Joe Jonas in DNCE’s “Toothbrush” video. Instagram stars Joanne the Scammer and The Fat Jewish also popped up, as did Victoria’s Secret Model Taylor Hill, New York Giants Wide Receiver Odell Beckham Jr., and rap singer Fabolous. You can see Nick Jonas and all of his celeb cameos in the VMAs video below.
Nick Jonas’ song “Bacon” comes from his sophomore release Last Year Was Complicated, and it continues to be one of his most asked-about songs due to its unusual title. According to Press Party, in an interview with Capital FM, Nick said the song is not about eating breakfast meat the morning after.
“So many people have asked me what that song is about,” Nick revealed. “A lot of guesses were: It’s the morning after and it’s bacon because you’re having breakfast. That’s not at all what it’s about.”
“The idea is when you are out of a relationship and you start to be okay with the fact that it’s ended. In my case my life was great, it’s so good that we should throw some bacon on it to make it even better.”
Now that Nick performed his song at the VMAs, expect even more fans to jump on the “Bacon” bandwagon.
Incidentally, Nick Jonas did more than sizzle in his super tight teal leather pants for his VMA performance. Ahead of the high-profile gig, Nick and Joe Jonas got matching tattoos. MTV posted pics from Nick’s Snapchat, which documented the event. Just hours before the VMAs kicked off, Nick and Joe Jonas each got arrows tattooed on their upper arms, pointing in opposite directions. No word if the other two Jonas brothers, Kevin and Frankie, are “jealous” of Nick and Joe’s new brotherly bond, but it makes sense that the two Jonas currently in the music business hung out together before the MTV awards show.
Both Nick and his older brother had big moments at the 2016 VMAs. While Nick Jonas got to heat up the stage with his performance of “Bacon,” Joe Jonas had his own VMA glory when his band DNCE won the VMA for Best New Artist.
