Did Britney Spears Fire Back At Justin Timberlake In New ‘Glory’ Track?

Britney Spears has secured another successful comeback with her new album, Glory, which has since been receiving raving reviews. There is one track that has everyone buzzing lately and it’s the one titled “Liar.”

Rumor has it, Britney Spears is hitting back at her ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake with the new song, according to a report via AceShowBiz. The song is supposedly a response to Timberlake’s hit song “Cry Me a River,” which was inspired by his breakup with the pop princess 14 years ago. Now, Spears’ fans think that “Liar” is a response to the song due to its lyrical content and similar musical style.

In the song, “Cry Me a River,” Justin sings, “Your bridges were burned and now it’s your turn.

In “Liar,” Britney says, “I’m left in the ash from the bridges you burned.”

Fans also believe that “Liar” refers to two other of Timberlake’s songs, such as “What Goes Around…Comes Around” and “Holy Grail.”

Britney and Justin ended their three-year relationship in 2002 due to the dismay of their fans, some of which still ship them today. The music video for “Cry Me a River” received a lot of media attention because of lyrics that hinted toward infidelity and the video featured a Britney Spears lookalike named Lauren Hastings. Then, back in December 2011, Timberlake finally admitted that “Cry Me a River” was inspired by one of his own relationships, according to Bustle.

In the latest issue of Vanity Fair Italia, the “Can’t Stop the Feeling” singer brought up his infamous breakup with the pop star when answering a question as to whether it was true that artists create their best art when they are “depressed and a little tormented,” according to PopCrush.com.

Timberlake, of course, brought up his split with Spears and how it helped him write his song “Cry Me a River.”

“Depends. In the past, suffering has helped me compose songs. ‘Cry Me a River’ was written in a time of pain, like everyone knows….” he said, referencing to his 2002 breakup revenge song.

This isn’t the first time that Justin has brought up his and Britney’s famous split. Fans have pointed out the numerous times he’s brought it up – from a Barbara Walters interview to his GQ cover stories. They also feel that it won’t be Justin’s last time.

Earlier this summer, it was rumored that Spears was finally going to get her revenge on Timberlake by sampling his “Cry Me a River” in a new song. According to celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, the reason why Spears pushed back her upcoming single “Make Me,” is because she was planning to sample “Cry Me a River” in her new single.

According to the report, industry professionals have been asking Britney’s publicist Shoshanna Stone if she’s planning to include the diss on her single “Make Me.” While it was clearly just a rumor at the time, there was also news that Britney was spotted wearing denim-on-denim in her original music video shoot, which was later scrapped. There were also rumors that Britney was going to dance around in a cage wearing nothing but red body glitter, and that she was going to simulate sex with rapper G-Eazy.

Of course, Spears did not sample “Cry Me a River” on “Make Me.” Even Gossip Cop has debunked the tabloid report by calling Spears’ manager Larry Rudolph, who personally spoke to the outlet.

“Although this and all of the other rumors I’ve read surrounding the release of Britney’s new single ‘Make Me’ are very entertaining, so far none of them have been true.”

The video for “Make Me” is already out and it features Britney and her gal pals having a private casting call to find Britney’s man.

And in a new interview on Most Requested Live with Romeo, Spears said that she wouldn’t mind working with Timberlake. Check out her surprising response at the 3:50 mark.
