5 Coaches Who Are On The Hot Seat In The 2016 NFL Season

The 2016 NFL season is close to kicking off and there is a lot of excitement surrounding it. There are a lot of teams entering a season where they expect to compete for a Super Bowl appearance, while others know they will miss the playoffs. Other teams are simply hoping to compete for a wild card spot.

Coaching has become an extremely underrated part of football. They may not get on-the-field and play, but preparation and motivation are two major keys for each and every team. It may go unnoticed for the most part, but when a team struggles in a big way the coach is always the first one to take the fall.

Heading into the 2016 season, there are a few different coaches to keep an eye on. There are some in new situations looking to turn the franchise around, while others are hoping to save their jobs.

It is going to be an entertaining season to say the least. There are multiple teams in each conference that will compete to win the conference and sleeper teams who could challenge them.

All of that being said, which five coaches are on the hot seat heading into the 2016 NFL season?

Chuck Pagano, Indianapolis Colts

Many expected that the Colts would fire Chuck Pagano this past offseason. Instead, they ended up giving him a four-year extension, as NFL reported. Even with the new extension that he received this offseason, Pagano is still on the offseason and Jim Irsay could fire him if he doesn’t turn the team around this season.

Jason Garrett, Dallas Cowboys

Jason Garrett may not be the first name that comes to mind when talking about coaches on the hot seat, but he certainly could be on his way out of town if the team doesn’t live up to standards this season. Jerry Jones won’t mess around if he feels like the team needs a chance. Garrett is without question a good head coach, but sometimes change is necessary.

Jim Caldwell, Detroit Lions

Another coach to keep an eye on is Jim Caldwell in Detroit. He was another coach that many thought would be fired this offseason, but that didn’t end up happening. Detroit is giving him one more chance to turn the team around and if he is unable to take a step forward this season, there is a very good chance he will end up being fired next offseason.

Mike McCoy, San Diego Chargers

San Diego hasn’t been considered a serious threat in the AFC over the past few years but are hoping to remedy that in 2016. Mike McCoy has gone 22-26 as the Chargers’ head coach in three seasons. That won’t get the job done for another season and he could be cutting ties with the Chargers if they don’t compete for a playoff spot.

Marvin Lewis, Cincinnati Bengals

It wouldn’t be easy for the Cincinnati Bengals to part ways with Marvin Lewis, but once again, change can be a good thing. They simply haven’t done well when it has mattered the most. Lewis has to figure out a way to bring home a playoff win, or else he could be looking for a new job.

Expect to see a coach or two lose their job next offseason. There are a few other coaches that could be on the hot seat depending on how their 2016 season goes. It will be an interesting season, to say the least, to keep an eye on the coaching carousel.
