Melanie Griffith back in rehab

Actress Melanie Griffith, 52, has entered rehab, her publicist has confirmed to Star magazine.

Griffith has been in rehab at least twice before- once, in 1988, for addiction to painkillers and alcohol after filming Working Girl. Griffith’s second stint in rehab came in 2000 after battling an addiction to painkillers. Her current stay at Cirque Lodge in Utah is said to be due to a “commitment to stay healthy” and “part of a routine plan that was designed between her and her doctors years ago.”

In response to a fan message on her website, Griffith answered:

The truth is that no one ever thinks that they have a problem until they try to stop. Overcoming addictions is tough but it can be made easier if you have someone that can offer support. My husband and family supported me so much through this journey and continue to do so. The thought of my babies and husband really made me focus on my recovery.

Star is not convinced by the “routine checkup” story, and insists that the rehab stay is really a bid to keep Griffith’s marriage to Antonio Banderas afloat. And an entertainment blog at Fox News cites some odd behavior Griffith recently exhibited as proof that all may not be well for the aging actress:

Someone who had recently worked with her told Pop Tarts that Griffith “had a multitude of crazy demands, including insisting everything around her, from the food to the flowers, be yellow.”
