Alanis Morissette Appears On Jimmy Kimmel, Performs Green Day’s Basket Case [Video]

Alanis Morissette may have just performed one of the best tributes we have seen for a fellow musician in years. Green Day was suppose to perform on Jimmy Kimmel when, instead, lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong entered rehab after a very public on-stage meltdown at an iHeartRadio concert.

The Ironic singer appeared on Kimmel and chose to cover Green Day’s Basket Case, a song that when slowed down and analyzed seems a fitting choice given Billie Joe Armstrong’s current battle with addiction.

At the end of the song, you can hear Alanis Morrisette wish her fellow musician and friend a speedy recovery.

Green Day has cancelled all of their upcoming concerts. Armstrong’s reps have not revealed how long their rock star client will remain in treatment.

Given his history with addiction and his very public meltdown, there is a good chance Billie Joe Armstrong could spend more than a month in recovery if he is truly serious about getting the help he needs.

In the meantime, Green Day is set to release the album, Uno, on Tuesday. After that album release, Dos and Tre will follow on November 13 and January 15, 2013.

While we might not see any live Green Day footage for a while, here’s Alanis Morrissette’s touching rendition of Basket Case as performed on Jimmy Kimmel:

Do you like how Alanis Morrissette slowed down Basket Case to draw out the meaning of the song, or does it only work as a rock fueled anthem in your mind?
