Texas High School Teacher Accused Of Having Sex With 18-Year-Old Live-In Foreign Exchange Student

A Texas high school teacher is accused of having an illegal sexual relationship with an 18-year-old Swedish foreign exchange student whom she and her husband were hosting in their home, the Dallas Morning News is reporting.

Even though the exchange student was 18 at the time of the sexual relationship and legally an adult, Texas law forbids teachers from having sexual relationships with students in the same school district, even if the students are of legal age.

Prosecutors say that Nicole Allyson Jakubiak, 36, began having a sexual relationship with the unnamed Swedish teen in March of this year, and their relationship continued until May. Jakubiak was, at the time, a first-grade teacher at A. Robinson Elementary School in suburban Houston, while the student attended Cypress Ranch High School. Both schools are in the Cypress-Fairbanks school district.

The relationship came to light when two other first-grade teachers, colleagues of Jakubiak at the elementary school, caught wind of it from Jakubiak herself, according to KPRC (Houston). One colleague reported that Jakubiak admitted to having sex with the student, cheating on her husband in the process.

When the colleague asked how Jakubiak and the student met, Jakubiak allegedly replied, “It’s not hard when they live with you.”

Over the course of their relationship, according to testimony from Jakubiak’s colleague, the sexual encounters would take place in the wee hours of the morning and happened in Jakubiak’s bedroom, the student’s bedroom, and an extra playroom in the house.

On at least two occasions, the couple almost got caught. Once, when Jakubiak’s husband came home unexpectedly, the two had been having sex in a study and had to hurriedly get dressed. On another occasion, when Jakubiak’s husband was out of town, the teacher’s in-laws showed up unexpectedly while the two were having sex. Jakubiak had to sneak the teen out of the house and made him walk around the neighborhood while Jakubiak visited with her husband’s parents.

The same colleague also reported that Jakubiak had rushed through a staff meeting in order to have more time to spend with the teen. The colleague also claims to have seen a picture on Jakubiak’s phone of the teen in his boxers.

The student, for his part, admits that the two had an ongoing sexual relationship, which he said was consensual and began with just oral sex but then evolved into intercourse. He said that over the course of their relationship, they had sex “20 to 30 times.” Officers searching the teen’s phone found several photos of Jakubiak semi-nude and in suggestive poses, as well as text messages between the two planning another late-night rendezvous.

Jakubiak claims she did not know the relationship was illegal, believing she was in the clear because he was 18 at the time, according to the criminal complaint against her.

“The defendant said she did not realize it was illegal and thought because he was 18 he could make his own choices.”

In a statement, the Cypress-Fairbanks school district confirmed that Jakubiak has been fired and that they are cooperating with authorities.

“We were outraged to learn of the serious allegations brought against a former teacher. Once we learned of the allegations, she was immediately removed from the campus, and we have been cooperating fully with law enforcement throughout their investigation. Violation of student trust will not be tolerated. Anyone engaging in inappropriate behavior will be dealt with swiftly and to the fullest extent of the law.”

Jakubiak remains free on $20,000 bond. She faces a felony charge of having an improper relationship with a student.
