Serena Williams Posts ‘Pretty’ Boyfriend Alexis Ohanian On Instagram To Distract From Angelique Kerber Reigning Tennis News

Serena Williams had to miss the Western & Southern Open this month due to her shoulder injury, but it looks like her “pretty” boyfriend Alexis Ohanian is keeping her company! The current world No. 1 is taking her mind off the fact that Angelique Kerber might surpass her in WTA rankings by focusing on the positive sides of her relationship.

While Serena Williams is widely considered the reigning queen of tennis, Angelique Kerber has been steadily climbing the ranks by continuously playing good tennis. In fact, she might shine at this year’s Western & Southern Open, which means that she might get that No. 1 spot.

“Angelique Kerber took another step to ousting Serena Williams as world No. 1 as she reached the quarterfinals of the Western & Southern Open quarterfinals,” reports ESPN. “The German will replace Williams — absent from this tournament due to a shoulder injury – at the top of the WTA rankings if she wins the Cincinnati title and on Thursday she reached the last eight with a 7-6 (5), 6-4 victory over Barbora Strycova.”

Serena has been on top for so long that it will be hard to imagine someone else as No. 1. But Angelique Kerber is also the silver medalist from Rio Olympics, while Serena Williams failed to get even to the final rounds.

To take her mind off of all this, the American tennis player has been uploading fun pictures on her Instagram. She is also steadily making her relationship with boyfriend Alexis Ohanian public, showing him off on her social media.

Although this picture is in a group setting, the fact that she can post about it means that she is not afraid to show that she is committed.

Alexis Ohanian has also been doing the same on his Twitter account. The current pinned tweet is Serena doing 73 Questions with Vogue Magazine. He also posted many pictures throughout her campaign in Wimbledon and short-lived Olympics run.

Her loss at the Rio Olympics came as a shock to her fans. Elina Svitolina beat her in Round 16 of singles tennis in just 72 minutes and two sets, 6-4, 6-3.

“Obviously I’m disappointed,” the world No. 1 said, according to USA Today. “The better player won. It was a great opportunity that didn’t work out the way I wanted it to. At least I was able to make Rio, which was one of my goals. It was awesome, but it’s over now.”

But it might be in Serena’s favor to take this time off to develop her relationship with Alexis Ohanian. Continuing to travel to compete in all these tennis tournaments is probably very straining on their love life. While injuries are a downer to most athletes, the fact that she has already matched Steffi Graff’s world record means that she can take some time for herself to prove that she is the greatest.

Other than Angelique Kerber, there may be another one that may threaten Serena’s climb to the top. Maria Sharapova, who was initially given a two-year ban for doping, may be back in the game by this coming January.

“Five-time grand slam winner Maria Sharapova, banned in June for two years for doping offences, may be allowed to return in January, according to Russian Tennis Federation president Shamil Tarpishchev,” reports Sydney Morning Herald.

Until she gets an official verdict, the 29-year-old tennis player is working hard to keep up her stamina.

Maria and Serena have been rivals from the get go and the Russian’s return may mean that there will be more drama in women’s singles tennis.
