‘Dancing With The Stars’ Season 23 Cast: Simone Biles Responds To Rumors, Other Gymnasts And Disney Star May Compete

Many Dancing with the Stars enthusiasts would love to see Simone Biles compete for the Mirrorball Trophy on Season 23 of the show, and the Olympic champ has confessed that she’s a fan of the reality competition. But will viewers get to see the high-flying athlete doing backflips in the ballroom when DWTS returns next month?

Unfortunately, the answer is no. However, Simone Biles isn’t ruling out a future appearance on the show. Women’s Wear Daily asked the proud new owner of four gold medals about the rumors that she’s joining Season 23 of Dancing with the Stars, and Simone revealed that she’ll be too busy touring and doing press to bring her boundless energy to the ballroom.

“Yes, I would really love to, but my schedule is very busy,” Simone said when asked if she was interested in joining the show. “I would love to do the spring season if they would let me. Everyone would love to have Derek [Hough] as a partner. But maybe if we got someone new that would be cool.”

According to E! News, Derek Hough will not be competing on Season 23 of Dancing with the Stars, so his absence might make Simone Biles feel a bit better about being forced to sit this season out.

Simone and her teammates—Laurie Hernandez, Aly Raisman, Madison Kocian, and Gabby Douglas—will spend this fall showing off their gymnastic skills during the Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnastics Champions, so it’s unlikely that DWTS viewers will get to see any members of the Final Five on the upcoming season of the show. However, Fierce Five member McKayla Maroney may follow in the fleet footsteps of fellow gymnasts Aly Raisman, Shawn Johnson, and Nastia Liukin by signing on for DWTS. As the Inquisitr previously reported, Maroney recently established a relationship with the show’s network, ABC, by helping Good Morning America with its Olympics coverage. She has also expressed an interest in appearing on DWTS.

Magnificent Seven member Dominique Dawes appeared on Good Morning America with McKayla Maroney, so she’s another gymnast who may compete on Dancing with the Stars. Dawes made history at the 1996 Summer Olympics by becoming the first African-American woman to win an individual medal in gymnastics. She and Maroney recently showed off their athletic skills by competing together in GMA’s waterless version of synchronized swimming.

According to Entertainment Tonight, Dawes’ former teammate, Dominique Moceanu, has come close to being cast on DWTS multiple times. Perhaps she has a better chance of making the cut during an Olympic year.

However, the Dancing with the Stars producers aren’t just trying to snag Olympians for Season 23. Rumor has it that The Bachelorette star JoJo Fletcher will likely put on her boogie shoes, and E! News reports that Wizards of Waverly Place actor Jake T. Austin will be this season’s former Disney star.

Jake T. Austin most recently appeared on the Freeform (formerly ABC Family) series The Fosters. According to Starcasm, he was replaced by another actor after deciding to leave the show. Austin also made headlines earlier this year when he revealed that he was dating an obsessive fan named Danielle Caesar. New York Daily News writes that Caesar “Twitter-stalked” Austin for six years before their romance blossomed. Their unique situation will surely give Zac Efron superfan Simone Biles some hope that her dream of dating Austin’s New Year’s Eve costar may someday come true.
