Viewers can watch the Nigeria vs. Honduras football match live online and see if the Rio Olympics trip that almost never started can now end with a medal for Africa’s top team.
Nigeria endured a string of problems in traveling to Rio for the Olympics earlier this month, but got their bearings and reached the semifinal earlier this week, where they fell to Germany. With their gold medal hopes dashed, Nigeria will now get a chance to leave Rio with a worthy consolation when they take on Honduras in the bronze medal match.
Kickoff for the match is set for 1 p.m. local time on Saturday (12 p.m. ET/5 p.m. in Nigeria). The match will be broadcast on NBC in the United States and on a number of broadcast partners across the globe, and will also be available for live streaming for those looking to watch online (a link to the online video can be found below).
Nigeria faced a tough task in going against Germany in the semifinal, and suffered what coach Abiodun Obafemi said were tactical lapses. A better strategy could have beaten Germany, he said.
“Well, I think we played against a formidable and better team,” Obafemi told Goal.
“The cohesion and the urgency was not there, until later in the second half. I was expecting the whole team, particularly the officials of the team to have studied the previous games of the German team. I watched the Germans with the team they played in the quarterfinal and expected the coaching crew would have studied them well and planned a better tactical approach.”
While Nigeria’s Dream Team VI had their gold medal hopes dashed in the loss to Germany, they are earning praise from Rivers United coach Stanley Eguma just for making it this far. Nigeria’s trip to the Rio Olympics started out on a low note, with the team getting stuck in the Atlanta airport amid problems with the plane they had chartered and difficulties getting the currency exchange to pay for it.

But the Dream Team went on to win their group and advance through to the semifinals before falling to Germany.
“It was a painful loss but the Germans were the better side because they took the chances that fell to their path and defended stoutly throughout the encounter,” Eguma told Goal.
“They kept the Dream Team VI in check for most part of the encounter. We have some positive to take out of the Rio Olympics with the discovery of some very good players that could take over from some of the Super Eagles’ players who are not measuring up.”
Fans who watch the Nigeria vs. Honduras football match live online will see the Dream Team with a chance to bounce back strong and earn a medal for their efforts, making them just the third nation ever to win gold, silver, and bronze medals in football. Nigeria became the first country outside of Europe or Latin America to win a gold medal when they won it all in 1996, and in 2008 the Dream Team reached the final before falling to Argentina.
Goal conducted a survey of readers and found that 92 percent backed the Nigerian team to beat Honduras and earn the bronze medal. This is also a Honduras team reeling after a 6-0 loss to Brazil in the semifinal round.
