Two Officers Shot During Child Porn Case Confrontation

Two Officers Shot in Child Port Confrontation

Two deputies were shot in Lakeside, California on Tuesday just after noon during a confrontation with a man suspected to be involved with child pornography. The police were shot by the suspect, who reportedly then shot himself as well.

The Huffington Post reports that the suspect was in police custody, and that his condition, as well as the condition of the wounded deputies, were not known. All three were taken to hospitals. Two of the injured were taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital, while another, presumably the suspect, went to Scripps Mercy Hospital.

NBC reports that the unnamed suspect’s girlfriend found pictures of him and her daughters on the suspect’s cell phone performing sexual acts. She took the evidence to police and assisted deputies by confronting the suspect on the phone. When deputies confronted the man, he opened fire, wounding the two officers before allegedly shooting himself.

The suspect, who is unemployed, allgedly told his girlfriend he planned to sell the photos to support the family.

The suspect’s girlfriend and her two daughters waited outside the apartment during the confrontation, and a witness reported hearing between 12 and 18 gun shots at the residence, located at Ashwood Street and Mapleview Street just south of the Lakeside rodeo.

“Multiple shots, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang,” neighbor Jodi Davis said. “I said, ‘Oh my gosh — those are gunshots!'”

The nearby El Capitan High School went into lockdown as a result of the shooting and students were dismissed at 1:20 pm.

The Lakeside sheriff’s department plans to hold a press conference regarding the incident on Tuesday afternoon.
