Warning: Season 4 spoilers below.

According to Dominic Purcell, who plays Lincoln Burrows, it will be the biggest escape yet in the series. The sneak peek trailer shows Burrows with a picture that proves Michael is alive. It also appears that Theodore “T-Bag” Bagwell is the one who brought Lincoln the information on Scofield. When we last saw T-Bag in Season 4, he was in solitary confinement in a prison. Would he be a changed man or the same conniving Bagwell.

The trailer reveals that Michael cis in Ogygia prison in Yemen and Lincoln seeks out Michael’s old friends and those who owe him a favor to help with the prison break.

Another returning cast member is Benjamin Miles “C-Note” Franklin, who is seen in the trailer wearing Muslim garb. It is unclear whether the character has converted or it’s part of the plan to break out Scofield.

Wentworth Miller states that “all is not as it seems” when describing the dangerous situation Michael Scofield has to get away from.

A producer of the show confirms that the returning cast members will play a significant role in helping Michael escape. Fernando Sucre enthusiastically agrees to help in the trailer and it seems like he volunteered due to his friendship with Michael.

Wentworth Miller states that his character will be attempting to not only breakout of the prison, but also the country of Yemen.

C-Note mentions terrorist group ISIS in the trailer, potentially causing issues with Michael’s escape.

The central theme will surround Michael and Lincoln’s brotherly love and loyalty to each other, which started when Michael put himself in prison to break out his brother for a murder he did not commit.

Dominic Purcell stated that he believes this new season will be better than the other seasons.

The end of the trailer also shows us that Michael managed to get a note to Lincoln. Prison Break Season 5 will premiere next year in 2017.

Paul Kellerman is not featured in the trailer, but a report on Digital Spy states that he has signed up to return.

Alex Mahone, the troubled FBI agent portrayed by William Fichtner will not be returning. Robert Knepper who plays T-bag told Digital Spy the following about Mahone’s fate.

“He didn’t want to just bring everybody back, so that the audience go, ‘Oh, look, it’s Bill Fichtner again!’ – he honestly thought, ‘I’m not sure where to do that in the plot.’

“So if someday there’s another chapter of this, maybe then Bill will be back. But I think the characters that are there, each of our moments that we have, are key to the storytelling, which is how it should be.”

Last we saw of Prison Break, Michael sacrificed himself to let Sara Tancredi escape from prison when his plan to break her out didn’t work. Michael had to open a hatch for Sara to escape and it seemed as though he had to electrocute himself to achieve this. However, we never actually saw Michael Scofield die.

Alex Mahone also showed Michael Scofield’s medical records, which revealed that he didn’t have much time to live. Scofield also made a DVD for his family, in the final episode explaining that he was going to die.

It is unclear how the writers will explain how Michael is still alive in Prison Break Season 5. The trailer gives little away about what happened to the characters since Michael’s disappearance.

Wentworth Miller has stated that Season 5 will begin 5 years after the events of Season 4.
