‘Stranger Things’ Season 2 Spoilers: The Upside Down Is All In Eleven’s Head?

Fans of the Netflix show Stranger Things have been tirelessly scouring the internet for Season 2 spoilers. While we can confirm that Season 2 is, indeed, in production, Netflix hasn’t confirmed that it’s picked up the second season. So, while we wait for Netflix to make up its mind, here’s some Stranger Things Season 2 spoilers to tide you over.

E! News is the first site to bring some major Stranger Things Season 2 spoilers, with the biggest one being that the Upside Down is all in Eleven’s head. Though the outlet is quick to point out that this is just a fan theory, and not a hard-confirmed spoiler, this Stranger Things Season 2 spoiler makes the most sense. For one, Eleven’s powers extend far beyond what she can understand at this very moment — she can crush cans with her mind, after all, and let’s not forget the fact that she can also kill people with just her brain power. (An enviable trait, to be sure…) Given the sheer magnitude of the power of Eleven’s head, and given the extent of the craziness that is her life, it would make sense that she completely made up the Upside Down as a coping mechanism in order to make sense of what amounts to be an extraordinary life.

But that’s not the only Stranger Things Season 2 spoilers floating around the Internet. Another popular theory, according to Movie News Guide, is that the effects of the Upside Down have profoundly affected everyone, especially Will, and the new season will explore the depths of the Upside Down’s effect on everyone. MNG sat down with the Duffer brothers, who are the producers of the show, and they confirmed that Season 2 will explore the Upside Down’s effects. They also confirmed that Eleven’s friends still think she’s dead – even though the season finale all but confirmed that she’ll be returning for Season 2 – and that Chief Hopper will be keeping his promise to Hawkins Lab to not tell anyone about Eleven and the Upside Down. This last bit of confirmation has led some fans to speculate that Eleven is really Chief Hopper’s daughter, but there’s been no official confirmation of that from the Duffers. And, unless the Duffers specifically confirm something to be true, it is, indeed, all speculation.

GameNGuide is also at the ready with their own Stranger Things Season 2 spoilers. According to the respected outlet, the only way that Season 2 could really take off — moreso, even, than Season 1 — is with a time jump. This means that many of the characters we’ve come to appreciate in this short period of time will be “all grown up” by the time we see them again, but there will also be a depth of knowledge and self-understanding that otherwise wouldn’t exist. After all, GameNGuide speculates, if Stranger Things Season 2 continues to focus solely on children, it runs the risk of becoming a Goosebumps or an Are You Afraid of the Dark?. Plus, this Stranger Things Season 2 spoiler about a time jump provides another good thing to the story line: the origin revelation. If Stranger Things Season 2 picks up when the children are adults, Eleven’s true parentage — and identity — will be revealed, and that will answer the question of whether she’s really Chief Hopper’s daughter once and for all. Finally, the cause — and effects — of Will Byer’s death will also be explored in Season 2 – since it’s been all but confirmed that Will, in fact, will die.
