‘The Vampire Diaries’ Nina Dobrev Return Officially Confirmed

Nina Dobrev’s return in The Vampire Diaries Season 8 has been officially confirmed.

Ever since Dobrev left the supernatural series, the show has had to face the wrath of poor ratings, as a result of which The CW recently announced that the show with Ian Somerhalder will not be renewed after Season 8.

Ever since the official announcement of the cancelation, viewers have been wondering if Dobrev will return to reprise her role of Elena Gilbert in Season 8.

Dobrev left the show after Season 6, but she was open to work with the producers when she recorded new voice clips for the Season 7 finale, when Somerhalder’s character, Damon shockingly heard her voice in a vault calling his name for help. That finale proved that there was some hope to see her back in the show.

Now according to recent developments, fans have got a ray of hope that she might make a big return.

According to Hollywood Life, Dobrev’s IMDB page stated that she is going to appear as Elena Gilbert in Season 8. Unfortunately for her fans, her IMDB page confirmed that she will only be reprising her role in Episode 16.

Well, that’s a long wait.

Not only fans, but even showrunner Julie Plec had high hopes for the show-favorite character to come back one last time. In a recently held San Diego Comic-Con, when it was asked to Plec if the xXx: Return of Xander Cage actress would be able to reprise her role or not, the 44-year-old executive producer of the show stated that when Dobrev left The Vampire Diaries, she was sure that she wanted to dedicate her time to pursuing her career in movies.

Plec further revealed that since the actress made her a promise of coming back, she would see for herself whether or not the Bulgarian actress would reprise her role or not.

“Not to put too much pressure on anything Nina Dobrev, but a promise was made. An emotional promise that I’d like to see come to life,” she added.

Apart from all the online rumors and speculation, E! News recently revealed that The CW’s executive producer Mark Pedowitz, confirmed that the network is in talks to bring Dobrev back.

“We collectively came to the same place,” Pedowitz added about the decision to end TVD while speaking at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. “We backed Julie [Plec] in her decision…there are discussions going on with Nina, we’d love to have her back…These are discussions that go on, hopefully, she’ll be back, but should it not work out, Julie has planned out a great series finale for fans.”

Meanwhile, everyone will not be happy to see Dobrev back on the sets.

TVD’s lead and Dobrev’s ex-boyfriend Somerhalder will surely have a tough time if the actress’ character is resurrected. According to Celeb Dirty Laundry, Somerhalder does not wish to see the star back in the show, as it would create problems in his married life. Also The CW would reduce his salary to give extra payment to her.

According to the publication, the Lost star earns somewhere around $40,000 per episode, and if Dobrev reprised her role, then the network would slash the money from his pocket.

Well, Julie Plec has yet to officially announce Nina’s return in The Vampire Diaries Season 8, but from the leaked image, viewers will surely be excited when they will get to see her back.

The Vampire Diaries Season 8 will air on at Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. on The CW. Are you excited to see Nina Dobrev for one last time as Elena Gilbert, sharing screen space with Ian Somerhalder? Tell us in the comments.
