Taylor Swift Reveals New Single Is About Ex Jake Gyllenhaal

For those of you who were hoping Taylor Swift would reveal who her chart topping single “We Are Never Getting Back Together” was about, you kind of got your wish — sort of.

It appears as though the poppy single isn’t about her brief tryst and public shaming of John Mayer. Instead, the tune seems to be for her one and only much older fall fling Jake Gyllenhaal. During her set at “The I Heart Radio Music Festival,” the singer decided to come clean about the song. After finishing the single, Taylor came right out with the Jake Gyllenhaal reference. The peppy singer looked to be in a pretty good mood at the Las Vegas venue and was heard saying, “Jake, it’s your turn!”

The shout out, which could be heard after the three-minute mark of the live performance video, is the first time Swift has decided to publicly reference Jake Gyllenhaal. In the past, she has only alluded to experiencing heartbreak.

In an interview, Taylor admitted that the song was about an ex boyfriend, “[My friend] starts talking about how he’s heard [my ex and I] were getting back together and that was not the case. When he leaves, Max and Johan are like, ‘So what’s the story behind that?’ And so I start telling them the story of ‘break up, get back together, break up, get back together,’ just, ugh, the worst.”

Jake Gyllenhaal and Taylor Swift briefly dated in October of 2010 but then shortly ended their controversial affair around December of that year. The breakup was the second in the same year for Gyllenhaal, who had split from then girlfriend Reese Witherspoon.

Do you think the video is confirmation that the song is about Jake Gyllenhaal?
