‘WWE NXT’ Results: Samoa Joe/Shinsuke Nakamura Interview Goes Bad Before ‘TakeOver: Brooklyn II’ Match

Despite a potentially epic match for the NXT Championship and the inclusion of such stars as Bobby Roode, Austin Aries and the debut of Ember Moon, the Asuka vs. Bayley rematch for the NXT Women’s Championship may be the most highly-anticipated bout at Saturday’s NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II. While six women were in action on WWE NXT this week, the feud between the current and former Women’s champs was merely reviewed via video package.

As WWE NXT ended last week, NXT Champion Samoa Joe was being restrained by security as he was mocked by No. 1 contender Shinsuke Nakamura. This week, the only segment hyped by WWE’s official NXT preview was the sit-down interview scheduled between Joe and Shinsuke. The official preview from the WWE Network simply stated that viewers would be treated to recaps of the rivalries leading to the matches at TakeOver on Saturday.

“With only a few days to go, take a special look at the upcoming matchups at this Saturday’s NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn.”

With only two original matches on the card, no one competing at TakeOver saw in-ring action on WWE NXT this week. While plenty was said about all of their matches, it was up to Hideo Itami, one of the WWE CWC competitors, and the six women in the three-on-three tag team match to carry the show from a wrestling perspective.

Note: The following contains the full results and spoilers for the episode of WWE NXT that first aired on the WWE Network on August 17.

Hideo Itami Defeated Mustafa Ali

While Shinsuke Nakamura’s title match against Samoa Joe at TakeOver was the central focus on this week’s WWE NXT, the show kicked off with NXT’s original import of Japanese descent, Hideo Itami. He faced off with Mustafa Ali, a competitor who was eliminated from the WWE Cruiserweight Classic Tournament in the first round by Puerto Rico’s Lince Dorado. It was a quick but solid match, in which Corey Graves correctly pointed out that Hideo Itami, who was in the NXT Championship scene before his injury, is struggling to reestablish himself as a viable contender in the NXT roster.

Bayley Vs. Asuka Video Package

For what is likely one of the final matches for Bayley under the NXT flag, neither she nor Asuka appeared on WWE NXT this week to promote their bout. WWE is pretty good at putting together promotional video packages, and they demonstrated those skills on this week’s episode.

Of Mice And Men

One of the official theme songs for NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II is “Relentless” by Of Mice And Men. To promote both the music and the WWE Network special, they aired promotional content and bits of interviews with the OMAM song playing in the background. Of course, “Giant” by Banks and Steelz is another official theme song, of which they reminded the NXT Universe.

Ember Moon’s TakeOver Opponent Will Be Billie Kay

William Regal was making some comments backstage about TakeOver: Brooklyn when he was interrupted by the up-and-coming Billie Kay. When she complained about not being booked for Saturday’s card, Regal announced that she would be Ember Moon’s opponent as the indie star previously known as Athena makes her NXT debut.

Carmella, Liv Morgan, and Nikki Glencross Defeated Alexa Bliss, Mandy Rose, And Daria Berenato

As almost every competitor who was a part of the women’s revolution in NXT has graduated to either Monday Night Raw or SmackDown Live, plenty of spots are opening up to give new women a chance to prove that they can fill the void. While Carmella and Alexa Bliss led their respective teams in this six-woman tag team match — a precursor to the match they find themselves booked for at WWE SummerSlam 2016 — Mandy Rose and Daria Berenato returned to WWE programming after losing on the WWE Tough Enough reality series. In the end, Mandy tapped to Carmella’s Code of Silence submission finisher.

Byron Saxton Interviewed Samoa Joe And Shinsuke Nakamura

Not much came of the interview between the current NXT Champion and the No. 1 contender that he will face at TakeOver. Shortly after they started talking about crossing paths in Japan, both men were out of their seats, ready to get physical. William Regal was there with security, however, to make sure that the two NXT Superstars didn’t get their hands on each other prior to TakeOver: Brooklyn this weekend.

These results have been confirmed by WWE’s official NXT page.
