Lady Gaga just dropped a new music bombshell.
Gaga took to Twitter on August 17 to announce her big return to music, telling excited fans that her new single, “Perfect Illusion,” will be hitting the airwaves sometime in September.
“LADYGAGA NEW SINGLE PERFECT ILLUSION SEPTEMBER,” Gaga tweeted out to her more than 62 million followers on the social media site.
The singer included a link to her revamped website and the hashtags #PerfectIllusion and #LG5, which is what fans have dubbed the star’s upcoming new album.
Lady Gaga also took to Snapchat to break the big news to her loyal fans, posting a selfie alongside the text “Surprise!! #LG5,” which sent fans into meltdown.
“She broke the Internet and snatched my weave #PerfectIllusion,” Lady Gaga fan @balletgrande tweeted out following Gaga’s huge new music announcement, and @celebratethefun wrote on the social media site, “It’s been so long since I’ve felt this excitement it almost makes me tear up #PERFECTILLUSION.”
“So @ladygaga’s new single will be called “perfect illusion” i am dying!!! I cannot wait,” Gaga follower @only1countess added on the social media site.
Lady Gaga didn’t give too much more away when it came to the details surrounding “Perfect Illusion” and its release. However, fans are speculating that the song could have been co-written by Gaga and produced by Mark Ronson.
Ronson appeared to confirm that he and Gaga were working on the song in an Instagram photo uploaded to the social media site 12 weeks ago, which showed Gaga hitting the studio with him, singer Blood Diamonds (also known as Kevin Parker), and Tame Impala.
Mark didn’t clarify if his post had anything to do with Lady Gaga’s new single, “Perfect Illusion,” though he did caption the snap “Illusion” after previously confirming that he’s been working with Gaga on her new album earlier this year.
“I’m gonna go in the studio and start working with Lady Gaga,” Ronson told Beats1 radio back in February.
“We just spent some time in the studio when she was in London,” he continued of his time with Lady Gaga. “She’s a muso at heart… it’s really great to make this very honest, authentic, analog kind of record with her.”
“I can’t really get into it too much — I’m not trying to be coy, but I feel like it’s not my place,” Ronson then admitted when it came to dishing the details on Gaga’s new music, including more information on the upcoming single. “When the time’s right to tell the story, I feel like she should tell it. But it’s some of my favorite music I’ve really ever worked on. It’s incredible — I love it.”
Gaga has also been working with RedOne on LG5, who spilled the beans on what’s to come from Lady Gaga’s latest release back in June in a candid interview with People.
“I didn’t want to go too far from what she is. We kept it [similar to] what Lady Gaga is, what she’s done all these years,” RedOne recently told the site of Gaga’s new music, describing the sound of her upcoming fifth studio release as being “special” and “a mixture of classic music and futuristic.”
RedOne, who also produced some of Gaga’s biggest hits, including “Just Dance” and “Poker Face,” also confirmed to the site that he worked on eight songs with the singer, but he wasn’t sure how many would end up on LG5.
“It’s up to her: It’s her album, it’s her creative process, it’s her world, and I’ll be happy for her whatever way she takes it,” he said. “She’s my sister. I want her to succeed, and I love her. She’s just such an amazing artist.”
The release of “Perfect Illusion” will mark Lady Gaga’s first solo single since she dropped the emotional ballad “Til It Happens to You” last year.
