‘Outlander’ Season 3 Rumors: Jamie & Claire Not Together, Delays In Shooting?

The so-called “Droughtlander” has put the Outlander Season 3 rumors mill into overdrive, with reports of all kinds coming from all sides. So, in order to make sense of the rumors, let’s break them down by what we know, and what we can speculate.

First, according to MNR Daily, despite the Outlander Season 3 rumors of the delay in shooting due to Caitriona Balfe’s “sickness,” all is in fact well, and shooting is going forward as expected. In fact, Outlander star Sam Heughan has confirmed that shooting is going on as we all speak with some interesting behind the scenes photos posted on his social media, as well as confirmation to William Shatner that he’s “back in Outlander world.”

Because production has kept a tight lid on what we can expect from Season 3, very few on-set photos have been leaked or released, and fans are left to speculate what’s going to happen based on the source material by Diana Galbadon. However, there are a few things we can definitely confirm based on what the stars and production have said thus far.

According to Ecumenical News, while Jamie and Claire will eventually get together in Season 3, it’s going to take a long time. Both the source material, and the statements from the cast, confirm that both Claire and Jamie have “a journey” to go on before they can be reunited. In keeping with chronology, too, Outlander Season 3 rumors about Sam Heughan playing an “older” Jamie — and having to get into makeup for the part, as Caitriona Balfe did during the Season 2 finale, “Dragonfly in Amber” — are, of course, true. Ecumenical News has also confirmed with People Magazine reported earlier this year: that Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe aren’t dating. However, fans are still keeping their fingers crossed that the two will, in fact, develop a relationship.

But there are other, more pressing, Outlander Season 3 rumors that need to be addressed, and according to Vine Report, executive producer Ronald Moore took the time to answer many of the fans’ more pressing questions during a Twitter Q&A. First, of course, there were the Outlander Season 3 rumors of who’s going to die, and who’s going to return. Obviously, at the Battle of Culloden, many Scottish soldiers were lost — and though it was implied, it was never really confirmed, that Jamie was the only one from the cast of characters to not only walk off the battlefield, but escape treasonous execution. However, the conversation with Moore suggests that many of our beloved characters — including Murtagh, played expertly by Duncan Lacroix — are now dead. What Outlander Season 3 will show, then, is how they died (and, in true Outlander fashion, what their last words were, and the legacy they left behind). Much along the lines of the so-called “Red Wedding” of Game of Thrones, many of these characters had to die in order to keep the pace of the story going — but unlike the “Red Wedding,” the episodes of Outlander that will show the death of everyone’s favorite characters will be true tearjerkers.

In addition, Moore confirmed the Outlander Season 3 rumors that we’ll be seeing two characters “all grown up.” First, we’ll see a grown-up Fergus, Jamie & Claire’s quasi-adopted son, who — according to the source material in Voyager — is now somewhere in his 30s. We’ll also be seeing a grown-up Lord John Grey, who is rumored to be played by Harry Potter star Tom Felton. However, this latter Outlander Season 3 rumor has yet to be confirmed.
