‘Street Fighter 5’ August Update Arriving Today, Preview For September Patch Also Revealed

A Street Fighter 5 update will be implemented today following a scheduled server maintenance. According to a Capcom-Unity blog post, the maintenance is slated to happen this Tuesday, August 16 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. PT, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. ET. Take note that the online features of SFV will be disabled during the process.

The blog noted that the August update for Street Fighter 5 centers on Rage Quitters. Essentially, this game update aims to further decrease the number of players who experience disconnection before a match ends. This means that more stringent policies for rage quitters will be executed. The post explained:

“We are aware of the Rage Quitting issue, and this update will continue our efforts toward resolving it. We will make a second update to the existing Rage Quitting system with stricter guidelines for players who disconnect before the match is over. Players who are penalized will lose League Points and be locked out of online matching for a set time.”

“Since the initial Rage Quitting system rollout, we have seen a rapid decrease in rage quitting players, and we believe that this new update will reduce that number even further,” Capcom added. “That being said, we’re still working on implementing a new, more robust system that will address the issue more completely by early next year.”

Aside from the August update, Capcom also shared a preview for Street Fighter 5’s scheduled September patch. One of the changes to expect upon getting next month’s game update is the addition of VS CPU Option. Updates will also be made to fighter profiles. Moreover, beginning September, SFV will be holding daily challenges offering Fight Money prizes for the gamers.

The Street Fighter 5 update set for next month will also bring along the following, as posted on Capcom blog:

  • Free colors for Season Pass holders
    • Colors 3-10 for Default and Battle costumes of the 6 DLC characters
  • Premium costumes will now include colors!
    • Colors 3-10 of the purchased premium costume
  • Color bundles available for purchase via FM or Real Money
    • All 22 Characters’ Default & Story Costumes Color Pack 3-10

In addition to these game updates, Street Fighter 5 players should also look forward to Double Fight Money events which will commence in September. Capcom, as appreciation for all the support given to SFV, is giving players a chance to double their earnings in Ranked Match. The first Double FM Event is scheduled on the weekend of September 2 to 4. Further details about the upcoming event are yet to be revealed.

The Capcom blog did not share any information, however, as to when the last post-DLC character will arrive. Juri, the fifth of six add-on playable characters for Street Fighter 5 infiltrated the PS4 and PC fighting game late last month, leaving Urien the last and only remaining DLC character waiting to be released.

Juri is a Korean fighter who first showed up in Street Fighter 4, according to Polygon. Included in her fighting techniques are her combo-focused V-Trigger called Feng Shui Engine Type Alpha and her V-Skill known as Kasatsushu.

GameNGuide cited reports suggesting that DLC character Urien might arrive this month. However, after the confirmation from the Capcom blog that the August update is highly intended for Rage Quitters, it seems like Street Fighter 5 players won’t have Urien as add-on character in the game yet.

Street Fighter 5, developed by Capcom and Dimps, was designed by Yoshinori Ono. The fighting video game was initially released in February 2016. The PS4 version of the game got a 77 MetaScore and a 3.3 User Score on Metacritic. The roster of characters part of Street Fighter 5 includes Birdie, Charlie Nash, Ryu, Cammy, M. Bison, and Chun-Li.
