‘Destiny: Rise Of Iron’ PS4 Exclusives Detailed

PlayStation owners have enjoyed timed Destiny exclusive since the game first launched in 2014. The release of the Rise of Iron expansion will continue that trend, and Bungie revealed Monday the full gamut of exclusives PS4 owners will receive.

Destiny: Rise of Iron will come with a PS4 exclusive Quest line and ship for the PVE crowd while Crucible multiplayer fans on Sony’s console will receive an exclusive map.

The PS4 exclusive Quest line is titled “Show of Strength.” Completing it will reward players with the Timeless Tereshkova ship. Here is the in-universe description of the new Quest.

“While you serve the Vanguard in the Plaguelands, I wonder if you’d be so kind as to help me understand the more brutal aspects of the Devil Splicers’ brand of worship.” – Tyra Karn

Meanwhile, the new Crucible map titled “Icarus” was previously mentioned, but Bungie added some extra details with today’s announcement. The map takes players back to Mercury’s Languid Sea.

“This Golden Age solar farm on Mercury has remained un-touched by the Vex for reasons unknown. The Vanguard has denied petitions from various weapon foundries to research it until the Warlock orders have finished their surveys first. An exemption has been granted to Lord Shaxx and his Crucible: the Guardians are free to utilize Icarus as a live-fire training zone,” Bungie’s description reads.

“Icarus” is a mid-sized PVP map meant to be used with any of Destiny‘s 6v6 game modes.

“The outer perimeter features a circular flow mixed with long sightlines and close-combat environments,” the studio writes. “The main chamber’s closing doors provide a fast, but dangerous, path through the center of the map.”

Three more maps are coming with Rise of Iron which will be available for both the PS4 and Xbox One. For those unfamiliar, Sony and Bungie signed a timed exclusivity deal for Destiny that keeps select content locked up on PlayStation consoles for one year. That means the PlayStation exclusive content from The Taken King should become available to Xbox One players when Rise of Iron releases on September 20.

Expect to see more of “Icarus” from Bungie during the Gamescom convention taking place this week in Cologne, Germany. The first of several Destiny: The Rise of Iron live streams starts tomorrow (August 16) from Gamescom in Cologne, Germany. World Lead Designer Steve Cotton will be joined by Crucible Lead Designer Lars Bakken on Tuesday, August 16 to discuss the new modes, maps, and features for multiplayer coming with Destiny: Rise of Iron. Those interested in watching can catch the live stream at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT via the Bungie Twitch channel.

A new ViDoc for Rise of Iron will also debut during the live stream. This will cover some of the new PVE locations like Felwinter Peak and the Plaguelands.

Those who have the fortune of being able to attend Gamescom will have the opportunity to go hands-on with some of the new content at Sony’s booth in Hall 7. Bungie isn’t saying what will be available to play yet other than it will be the new content.

Bungie also just announced a live stream schedule with European streamers throughout the week. This will kick off on Wednesday and feature streamers from various European countries and Russia on both Twitch and YouTube.

Meanwhile, Destiny – The Collection was also announced Monday. This bundles all Destiny add-ons from the original 2014 release through Rise of Iron. This includes The Dark Below, House of Wolves, and The Taken King at a retail price of $59.99.

PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 players who want to upgrade to the latest console versions can do so for $20 less. Activision is offering a legacy console upgrade path (via official site) for those who have purchased Destiny content up through The Taken King. Those interested can do so now by logging into the Xbox Store or PlayStation store via their current-gen console to see if they are eligible.
