SpongeBob’s Patrick Star Splits With Wife

Actor Bill Fagerbakke, perhaps most well-known as the voice of Patrick Star on the popular children’s television series SpongeBob SquarePants has filed for separation from his wife.

According to documents obtained by TMZ, Fagerbakke filed for legal separation from his wife in L.A. County Superior Court, citing the all-too-familiar “irreconcilable differences.” Fagerbakke and his wife Catherine McClenahan married in 1989 and separated at some point last year. They have two children together: 21-year-old Hannah and 18-year-old Carson. Bill is seeking spousal support, according to the court documents.

Grown-ups probably remember Fagerbakke best as Michael “Dauber” Dybinski on Coach from back in the day, while kids know him best from his voice work on SpongeBob SquarePants on which he voices Patrick Star. He also has a running gig on How I Met Your Mother as Marshall Eriksen’s father Marvin, though that role is pretty much over since his character died a few seasons back.

McClenahan is also an actor, though less well known. She did just appear on the Jon Hamm episode of Comedy Bang! Bang!. She is best known for her 1986 role as Lucy in Head Office.

On July 21, 2012, SpongeBob SquarePants was renewed and aired its ninth season. This is the first Spongebob season to have regular episodes produced in widescreen.

SpongeBob airs on Nickelodeon.
