WWE News: Backstage Update On Rusev And Lana, Vince McMahon Now A Fan?

Power couples in the WWE aren’t as common as many think. Miss Elizabeth and Macho Man Randy Savage were the first to strut their stuff as an on-screen partnership on WWE TV. Couples such as Matt Hardy and Lita, Edge and Vickie Guerrero, Dolph Ziggler and AJ Lee, and Edge and Lita followed their lead and did a tremendous job. That isn’t even including the ultimate power couple in WWE history, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.

Being in a couple in the WWE isn’t an easy task. It takes excellent awareness, creativity, and thick skin. The WWE Universe is always sensitive to on-screen romances. It became personal with the talent and audience when Lita left Hardy for Edge. Instead of it being an off-camera exclusive, Vince McMahon also wanted that to play out on TV. With hard feelings towards each other, Edge and Hardy had one of the best feuds of the 2000s.

Today’s WWE product only showcases one couple, and they have slowly taken over the mainstream world. Nashville Predators games aren’t the only thing keeping Lana and Rusev in the pop culture landscape. Total Divas will showcase their wedding in the next season in Fall of 2016. They’re making a huge impact on WWE television as well. On Monday Night Raw, the beautiful couple had a wedding celebration, which was stopped by Roman Reigns.

During Rusev and Lana’s on-screen split months ago, Lana announced their engagement publicly. TMZ picked it up, which ruined the plans for WWE during that time. Both were sent to the proverbial dog house, but it seems that Vince may be changing his mind on the Ravishing Russian and Bulgarian Brute. According to Daily Wrestling News, Rusev’s recent heel work has sat well with Vince McMahon.

“The backstage heat that newlyweds Lana and WWE United States Champion Rusev picked up several months back, mainly for going public with their engagement during a split storyline, is no more. Vince McMahon is said to be behind the two once again and Rusev has recently been praised for his work as a heel.”

It appears that Vince isn’t the only fan of Rusev in recent weeks. Jim Ross, WWE Hall of Fame commentator, is a fan of the current-United States champion and the work he is doing.

“Rusev had a good night and he is working hard to ascend to the next level and to make the US Title develop more equity along the way. I like the positive steps that Rusev is taking.”

Right now, the plan is for Rusev to face Roman Reigns for the United States championship at SummerSlam. If that wasn’t evident after their segment on Monday Night Raw last week, then expect another segment to tease the clash of the titans on WWE Raw the week before SummerSlam airs. Like Ross said, WWE Creative are taking great steps to finally put him over the right way.

He has way too much talent to be left out of the conversation. Rusev often doesn’t get enough credit for what he brings to the table. His wrestling skill and promo ability are top-notch for the main event scene in the WWE.

After last week’s Monday Night Raw, he and Cesaro closed out the show. It wasn’t what the fans were expecting, but it was a fresh difference from what the WWE usually closes out WWE Raw with. Rusev will be a force to be reckoned with in the years to come with Lana by his side. The dynamic duo won’t stop until they become WWE World champion.
