Kerri Walsh Jennings Was Five Weeks Pregnant During Olympic Gold Run

Kerri Walsh Jennings said shortly after the conclusion of the 2012 London Olympics that she wanted more kids in her future. Apparently she meant very soon.

The gold-winning beach volleyball star announced that during her amazing run at the Olympics she was five weeks pregnant.

Walsh Jennings appeared on the Today show, where she and her husband Casey Jennings announced that they are expecting their third child. The due date is April 9, meaning that she was pregnant all throughout the Olympics.

She noted that during the Olympics she didn’t know yet that she was pregnant, the Yahoo! Sports blog Fourth Place Medal reported. Kerri Walsh Jennings did say she felt “touchy and moody” during the Olympics, different from her normal upbeat attitude. She also missed her period, but attributed that to the stress of the competition.

Her partner, Misty May-Treanor, had a suspicion. When she heard about the symptoms, she told Walsh, “You’re probably pregnant.”

“I thought it could have been the stress of the games and travel kind of throws your schedule off, but I knew,” Walsh Jennings told Matt Lauer. “At some point, you’re late and then you start feeling something. And I definitely started feeling something in London.”

Kerri Walsh had hinted at this before. A few days after the conclusion of the Olympics, she told The Associated Press that she planned to come back for the 2016 Olympics, but really wanted to have more children first.

She may have a new child by 2016, but Kerri Walsh Jennings will need a new partner, too. May-Treanor said that she plans to retire from the Olympics with the most recent gold medal.
