‘Fear The Walking Dead’: Everything You Need To Know About The Season 2 Return

The Season 2 return of AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead is only a week away. With that in mind, let’s have a look at everything we know so far.

Spoiler alert: This article discusses Season 2 of AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead. Please proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers.

Firstly, the official synopsis for the Season 2 return of Fear the Walking Dead has been released. Episode 9 is titled “Grotesque.”

“Nick’s steadfast search for answers leads him into a deadly dog-eat-dog landscape. A dark piece of his past is uncovered.”

The mid-season finale of Fear The Walking Dead saw the core group split up into three smaller groups. Nick Clark (Frank Dillane) has branched out entirely by himself. Madison (Kim Dickens) and Travis (Cliff Curtis) have split — hopefully temporarily. Travis has decided it is more important that he travels alone with his son, Chris (Lorenzo James Henrie). Madison has chosen to travel in the larger of the three groups: with her daughter, Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey), Victor Strand (Colman Domingo), and Ofelia (Mercedes Mason). Let’s have a closer look at these groups and how the Season 2 return of Fear the Walking Dead will affect them.

Firstly, as a whole, the lack of a permanent base like they had on board the Abigail or in the compound will be a major hurdle, according to an interview showrunner Dave Erickson did with Entertainment Weekly recently.

“This is the first time, for all of them, where they have to survive on the land for a time and they have to figure out a way. That’s going to be a crucial step for Nick, especially, when we first return next season. We’re going to see each group, with one exception, struggling to find a place. There are going to be some close calls for everybody.”

Nick Clark

In the beginning of Season 2 of Fear The Walking Dead, Nick found solace, of sorts, when his group arrived at the compound Victor Strand led them to. Celia Flores (Marlene Forte) had a unique way of looking at the infected and it struck a chord with Nick. However, once she died, Nick seems determined to find another group who thinks the way Celia did. In the meantime, he will travel like one of the infected, covered in their blood and walking among them.

“[Nick] is trying to get to a safe place, or where there might be more people who empathize with the dead, or at least don’t just go around killing them,” Frank Dillane explains during a Season 2 interview first released by Yahoo!

From interviews done at San Diego Comic-Con last month and the Season 2 trailers released, we have learned that Nick will meet a like-minded group in the Season 2 return of Fear The Walking Dead. Nick will form a connection between a member of the group, Luciana, but it will not be all smooth sailing. According to the actress who plays Luciana, Danay Garcia, Nick will be tested before he is trusted.

Travis and Chris

Towards the end of the first half of Season 2 of Fear the Walking Dead, Travis’ son, Chris, began to melt down. This could have been because of the zombie apocalypse, the loss of his mother after she was bitten by the infected, or the fact he is a teenager — or, perhaps, a combination of the three. Regardless of why he ended up a mess, the end result was the same; his father, Travis, felt Chris should be kept separate from society for a while, and that’s why he decided to break away from Madison’s group.

However, it seems their alone time will be short-lived when Season 2 of Fear the Walking Dead returns next Sunday night. The photo above from a recent Season 2 return video released by Yahoo! shows Travis and Chris sitting around a campsite with a group of other people. So, who are these people and how will Chris interact with them? Only by tuning into the Season 2 return on Fear the Walking Dead will all be revealed.

Strand, Madison, Alicia, and Ofelia

According to the actor who plays Strand, Colman Domingo, the Season 2 return of Fear the Walking Dead will see the groups introduced to different communities, and this will bring its own complications. Along with this, the remainder of Season 2 will see the characters also have to deal with their own “inner demons.”

“The characters are really spun away from each other,” he explains. “Finding out who they are now that things have changed dramatically.”

For Strand, he will not only be trying to adapt to the strange new world but also having to deal with the recent death of his boyfriend, Thomas Abigail (Dougray Scott).

Madison Clark is looking for a place where she can set up in the hope that Nick will eventually return. When her group comes across a hotel, it seems this just might fill the criteria required for a happy home for Nick. However, they have to not only clear it from unexpected walkers who show up and corner her and Victor in the hotel’s bar, but there will also be other survivors living there. It will be interesting to see how they will all get along, especially since Colman Domingo has already said there could be complications with the other groups’ meeting.

As for Madison’s daughter, Alicia, she will get a chance to be “on her own for the first time,” according to the actress who plays her, Alycia Debnam-Carey. This is something that will be hard for her mother, allowing her daughter to risk herself during such a deadly time. However, for Alicia, it will give the character some much needed time for her “own adventure.”

For Ofelia, she has lost her mother, and more recently her father, since the onset of the zombie apocalypse. According to the actress who plays her, Ofelia is “practically suicidal,” something that is not particularly helpful with the infected all around. For the others, will they really trust her to have their back if they are ever cornered?

“She’s lost everything she has,” Mason explains in the interview released by Yahoo!
