Police: Florida Couple Beat Up Grandma For Bizarre Reason

A Florida couple has been arrested for reportedly beating up an elderly woman. However, the assault itself isn’t what’s attracting the attention of the media. The alleged reason behind the violent beating, according to Opposing Views, is indeed bizarre, and is attracting viral attention on social media, and news reports.

Police say that Michael Rubio and his girlfriend, Jacquelyn Carrasquillo, allegedly assaulted Rubio’s grandmother because she wouldn’t drive them to a nearby home so they could have sex. WCTV News reports that the 25-year-old man and his 27-year-old girlfriend argued with the woman, who refused to give in to their request, but the argument escalated to a violent assault when the elderly woman exited the car and began walking away from the Florida couple.

Rubio and Carrasquillo reportedly chased after the woman, before delivering a series of violent blows to her face and body. The Florida couple is also accused of throwing the woman down on the ground during the assault. When the couple was done assaulting the older woman, they allegedly sped away in the woman’s vehicle.

This isn’t the first time a couple has targeted an elderly person in an assault — or worse. Earlier this year, a South Carolina couple was arrested in connection to the death of a woman and her grandchild. The two victims were not related to the two suspects, who are husband and wife. Not only were the 9-year-old girl and her grandmother murdered, the couple is accused of stealing the woman’s car, burning it and abandoning it. As for the motive, authorities aren’t releasing that at this time — though they do have one.

In 2014, an elderly Georgia couple by the names of Russell and Shirley Dermond were violently murdered in a case that remains unsolved to this day. Russell Dermond was reportedly found with his head cut from his body — a case of decapitation murder that rocked media headlines. Shirley remains missing for a brief time before her body was ultimately found. Over the span of this case, there have been very few updates. Meanwhile, authorities and community members continue to wonder about just who would brutally murder two elderly people with no known motive? A $45k reward exists for information that could lead to the closure of this horrifying case.

Last year, a Florida woman was arrested when she allegedly assaulted an elderly woman with a lawn tool. Miami-Dade police say that 34-year-old Mariela Gonzalez “barged in” to the 86-year-old woman’s home carrying a lawn rake, which she reportedly used to strike the elderly woman with at least once in the head. Fortunately, the woman’s adult son was in the home, and was able to save his mother from being beaten to death. The apparently-senseless crime may have been fueled by a robbery attempt.

As for the Florida couple in this most recent case, they have both been charged with multiple crimes associated with the incident. Those charges include battery on a person over the age of 65, and robbery. They are currently being jailed at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, but no reports are clarifying on whether or not they’re being held on bond.
