TNA News: Billy Corgan Named Company President, Dixie Carter Changes Role

After several strong additions to the IMPACT Wrestling roster, TNA will move forward under new leadership as Smashing Pumpkins singer Billy Corgan was named IMPACT Wrestling president, per a press release issued on Friday (via WrestleZone). Dixie Carter was moved from president to chairman of the company.

Corgan, 49, joined IMPACT Wrestling last April in a creative role and was in charge of conjuring up compelling storylines and characters for TNA. With over three decades of experiences in the entertainment industry and a life-long professional wrestling plan, it was a coup for Corgan.

After an on-screen role and extensive behind-the-scenes work with TNA, the “Bullet with Butterfly Wings” singer will take on a significant role within the company. The press release states that among Corgan “will be responsible for leading day-to-day operations for IMPACT and its affiliated brands.”

“Billy is a visionary, an iconic artist and savvy businessman with an incredibly gifted creative mind. He has built a decades-long successful global brand, and also has a deep passion and understanding for professional wrestling,” Carter said in a press release. “In working with Billy over the last 16 months, he has impressed me to the point that I’ve been in discussions with him to take an elevated strategic leadership role within the company. The more we discussed our vision for the organization, the clearer it became that position needed to match his commitment.”

She added, “In working with Billy over the last 16 months, he has impressed me to the point that I’ve been in discussions with him to take an elevated strategic leadership role within the company. The more we discussed our vision for the organization, the clearer it became that position needed to match his commitment.”

Carter’s new role with TNA “will focus on long-term planning, strategic partnerships and global growth.”

IMPACT has received an injection of life into its product in recent months. Names such as former Ring of Honor superstar Moose and former WWE superstar Damien Sandow (Aron Rex) are now full-fledged members of the IMPACT Wrestling roster. With veterans such as “Broken” Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy, and Bobby Lashley, along with young stars such as Ethan Carter III and Michael Bennett, the roster is booming with talent.

“We are entering an exciting new era for IMPACT and will be working to continue to define our brand, develop global strategies for success, and structure for future investment and growth,” Carter added. “These moves, effective immediately, signify the team’s determination to work together to effectively cover more ground and capitalize on TNA’s current momentum that has seen ratings rise in recent months.”

After extensive reports of IMPACT Wrestling’s impending doom, the company has survived being kicked off of two television stations in less than three years. The company’s flagship broadcast, Impact Wrestling, airs every Thursday at 8/7c on PopTV.

“I believe in this company, its passionate fans, the talented roster and the dedicated staff and crew,” Corgan said. “I am committed to this great opportunity and will use all of my resources and connections to drive the success of this company. This year we have made significant strides in establishing a strong foundation for our future and will be aggressive in continuing to evolve and grow the IMPACT brands.”

With Corgan poised to run the day-to-day operations of the company, he will have a significant input on the future and direction of TNA.
