WWE News: Roman Reigns Suffers Injury During Show In Australia

On Thursday night, Roman Reigns was in Melbourne, Australia for a live WWE show that featured a main event tag-team match in which Reigns and Finn Balor took on Chris Jericho and Seth Rollins. Reigns and Balor would eventually end up emerging victorious in the match, but Roman suffered a cut next to his left eye that required two stitches, according to Wrestling Inc.

It will be interesting to see how the WWE handles the gash heading into SummerSlam. Reigns has a scheduled match against Rusev for the United States Championship and risking any type of match on Monday Night Raw before the big show could result in the cut opening up. As the cut is close to his eye, a second injury to the same area could put the match at SummerSlam in jeopardy.

Roman only recently returned from a 30-day suspension for violating the WWE’s Wellness Policy. After facing Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose at WWE Battleground for the WWE Heavyweight Championship, the creative team decided to move Reigns into a storyline involving Rusev and his new bride, Lana.

On the August 8 edition of Monday Night Raw, Roman Reigns crashed the newlyweds’ party in the middle of the ring. Reigns challenged Rusev to a match at SummerSlam for the WWE United States Championship, but Rusev rejected the challenge. That led to Roman getting under Rusev’s skin to the point where the Bulgarian Brute attacked Reigns.

The two began going at it in the ring when Lana accidentally got in the way and got pushed into the wedding cake by Rusev. As you can imagine, the Russian beauty was not happy as Reigns left the ring laughing.

Rusev and Lana went to the back to find Raw general manager Mick Foley and asked him to rectify the situation. Foley ended up scheduling the United States Championship match for SummerSlam much to the chagrin of Rusev.

Rusev isn’t the only person in the world the Roman Reigns is currently feuding with. Last week, Reigns took aim at the always outspoken UFC fighter, Conor McGregor, after McGregor fired some shots at the WWE roster following Brock Lesnar testing positive for PEDs in a sample taken just prior to UFC 200. The test results were revealed after Lesnar won his fight at UFC 200.

“For the most part, those WWE guys are [expletive], to be honest,” McGregor said. “They’re messed up [expletive], if you ask me. Fair play to Brock [Lesnar], he got in and fought, but at the end of the day he was juiced up to the [expletive] eyeballs, so how can I respect that?”

Obviously, McGregor’s comments didn’t sit well with WWE superstars and their fans, but that didn’t stop McGregor from doubling down on his comments.

Roman was one of the many who responded to McGregor’s taunts when he took to Twitter to roast McGregor over his size.

Reigns didn’t stop there. Roman was asked about McGregor in a recent interview, and he dared Conor to enter “my locker room.”

If everything is right with the world, somehow, someway, Conor McGregor will end up in the WWE after he’s done in the UFC. His ability to trash talk on a microphone would add so much excitement and intrigue to the WWE and could finally help the company in the ratings department. If that were to happen, an opening rivalry between Roman Reigns and McGregor would be absolutely amazing.
