[Update] Simone Biles took gold in the all-around gymnastics competition in Rio. Her teammate Aly Raisman took silver and Russia’s Aliya Mustafina took bronze.

Simon Biles’ incredible journey to the 2016 Olympics wasn’t easy.

Biles is a favorite to take home another gold medal when she competes in the women’s gymnastics all-around competition tonight, but her career in gymnastics could have easily ended before it ever began.

According to Radar Online, Biles was raised by a mother who suffered from severe alcohol and drug addictions.

Throughout Biles’ tragic childhood, her mother, Shanon, was arrested multiple times for theft, assault, drug possession, and driving under the influence.

Biles’ mother spent so much time in jail and in trouble with the law that Biles’ grandparents, Ron and Nellie Biles, adopted her and her younger sister, Adria.

Ron and Nellie have been outspoken about their daughter’s behavior in interviews, which Shanon has been less-than-thrilled to learn about.

“I feel like they’re defaming my character,” Shanon revealed. “I was struggling back then, but I’ve gotten better….He didn’t have to be so harsh about it. He could’ve been a little bit more classy with it. He didn’t have to put me under the bus.”

Despite her awful childhood years, Biles managed to turn her life around and is currently taking the Rio Olympics by storm.

According to USA Today, Biles is a heavy favorite to win her next event and could win more gold medals in the days to come.

Of course, winning is nothing new for Biles.

Over the past three years, the young gymnast has won just about all of the all-around competitions she has entered. Biles has taken home four titles in the U.S. and three world championships.

Right now, Simone Biles is on pace to win a record 10 gold medals by the time the Rio Olympics wraps up next week.

As far as Biles is concerned, she is confident in winning more medals in the events to come.

“I think if we hit our sets, we’re very capable of medaling,” she admitted. “But it just comes down to the day.”

If things continue to go her way, then there’s no reason to believe that Biles will slip up when it’s her turn to take the stage.

Meanwhile, winning gold medals isn’t the only thing on Biles’ mind.

According to E! Online, Biles’ success at the Olympics has attracted the attention of her favorite celebrity crush, Zac Efron.

Biles has never been afraid to express how much she adores Efron.

During an interview on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, Biles admitted that she liked Efron because “he’s gorgeous.”

DeGeneres then gave Biles a leotard pattern of Efron’s face, which she desperately hoped to wear during competition.

“CAN I PLS PLS WEAR MY ZAC EFRON LEO TO P&G’S,” she wrote on Twitter. “Thanks @TheEllenShow for having me!”

After Biles started winning medals at the Rio Olympics, Efron took to Twitter to congratulate his favorite fan.

“So phenomenal a skill’s named after her,” Efron shared. “Congrats on sticking the Biles and qualifying for the finals @Simone_Biles!”

“@ZacEfron Thanks Zac! I hope you can watch Team Final tomorrow night,” she responded.

Biles love for Efron runs deep. In fact, the Olympian also revealed that she has a life-size cutout of Efron in her bedroom.

“Sometimes I used to kiss him on the cheek,” she stated.

In response to Biles’ latest request, Efron took a picture of himself in front of a poster of Biles, Laurie Hernandez, Madison Kocian, and Aly Raisman.

“Of course I’m watching the #FinalFive,” he told her on Twitter. “dominate the floor! #Rio2016 #TeamUSA.”

Biles has yet to respond to Efron’s message.
