‘Walking Dead’ Spoilers In Upcoming Preview Special?

Walking Dead fans are finally going to get a preview of what’s to come in Season 7 of the AMC show. The cable channel teased us a couple of weeks ago with news that they would be airing a preview. Now we have a date. A date on which Movie Fone says we’ll get not only an hour-long preview of the new season but also a day-long marathon of The Walking Dead Season 6.

There’s been lots of speculation about what may be on our screen when the new episodes of The Walking Dead air, including the big question we were left with by the controversial finale of last season — who did Negan kill? We’ve had a few spoilers on that front and some interesting news about The Walking Dead‘s newest villain recently. Will AMC shed more light on these things during the special?

The Walking Dead marathon will begin at 4:25 a.m. ET on August 14. All of Season 6 will be shown, and when it wraps up at 10 p.m. ET with the big Negan and Lucille scene, an hour-long preview will begin. AMC describes the Walking Dead preview like this.

“The hour-long special will give fans an early look at what to expect in the upcoming season, featuring exclusive interviews with the cast, executive producers and special guests, including Yvette Nicole Brown, as well as behind-the-scenes moments.”

So what are some of the things we’re hoping to learn more about on the Walking Dead special? Let’s start with the biggie — Negan’s victim. Well, we don’t know how much we’ll learn, but it’s probably safe to say it won’t be much since this is the big question that has Walking Dead fans hanging on and that will have them tuning in when the show returns for Season 7 on October 23. We have, however, learned recently who was not Negan’s victim. It came straight from the mouth of Negan himself, well, of the actor anyway — Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Check out this Comic-Con interview.

Shocked? Lots of Walking Dead fans were. Many have speculated that either Glenn or Daryl met the business end of Negan’s bat Lucille. Both characters were seen as possible victims because of their roles (or lack thereof) in the comic upon which the show is based. In the Walking Dead comics written by Robert Kirkman, who also writes for the show, Glenn dies at the hand of Negan, so many thought the show would follow suit. Daryl, on the other hand, doesn’t even exist in the Walking Dead comics, so he seemed like a logical choice to many. Now that we know neither of them is killed, who are other possibilities? It could be anybody, but popular choices at this point seem to be either Michonne or Abraham. While we aren’t likely to learn the identity of Negan’s victim on the upcoming Walking Dead special, it’s probably a safe bet that they’ll tease it a lot and may even provide some kind of clues.

In their last issue, Entertainment Weekly also shared that we’ll learn Negan’s backstory pretty quickly in this season of The Walking Dead. Viewers will be filled in on what his life was like both and since the zombie apocalypse. It would be awesome to get a peek at that this Sunday. Because of Negan, this season will also reportedly be darker than any previous season of The Walking Dead. The villain will turn the world of Rick and his clan upside down. Jeffrey Dean Morgan described it like this.

“It’s a reset on The Walking Dead world. It’s f—ing Negan’s world now… some of your characters that you’ve grown to love are not going to be on the show anymore, and it’s going to end badly for them. It’s going to be a whole new beginning for The Walking Dead. Really, we’ve taken the show and just flipped it upside down… You’re going to see your favorite characters in a position that they’ve never been in before, which is super vulnerable and victimized.”

Hold on, sounds like it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

Need a little more to hold you over until that Walking Dead special? Check out the trailer below. Maybe on Sunday we’ll learn more about some of what we see here.
