Ohio Voters Receive A Fun, Free Gift: One Million Anti-Obama DVDs
We’re getting closer and closer to the time when we’ll all go to the polls and decide the fate of the USA (for the next four years, anyway). Will it be Mitt Romney or Barack Obama? In case you’re still on the fence about who you’ll be voting for (and you live in Ohio) you might be receiving a free DVD in the mail to help you sort it all out.
An anti-Obama film titled Dreams From My Real Father has been mailed out to over one million voters. All you need to do to get your hands on a free copy of the film is be an Ohio resident. This film isn’t to be confused with the theatrically released 2016: Obama’s America by Dinesh D’Souza, where the conservative commentator makes an argument against the POTUS that you can either accept or decline, and then go about your merry day. This film makes a new (unsubstantiated) claim that Chicago activist and communist Frank Marshall Davis is Obama’s real father.
The film’s director and producer, Joel Gilbert, told Buzzfeed that they’re distributing as many copies as they can in an effort to persuade on-the-fence voters before election time.
“We’re sending out bulk mailings to many states,” Gilbert said. “Probably Illinois, New York, Florida, Arizona, Louisiana, we’ll hit every state if we can to stimulate and force the national media to cover the story.”
Of course, there are questions of money. How could Gilbert and company afford to make the film and distribute millions of copies for free?
“We’ve made 12 successful films and we are also making current revenue on the current film,” he said. So basically, none of our business. But hey, it’s a free country. Gilbert can do as he pleases.
Davis lived part of his life in Hawaii, and does show up in Obama’s own memoir Dreams From My Father as an old man. The idea that he could be Obama’s real father has proven to be a popular theory in some fringe conservative circles, because if true, it would prove that Obama is really a communist. Or something. We don’t know what it would prove. Probably nothing.
Still, it’s one of the more interesting theories out there without a shred of proof whatsoever.
