Kylie Jenner Birthday Red ‘Fires Of Mordor’ Wig Rocks, But Cornrows Put Kylie Under Fire Again

It’s birthday time in the Kardashian-Jenner family! Kylie Jenner’s birthday is today, August 10, and she’s gone all out to update her “evolving” style with a new hair look that’s red, cornrowed, and what Vanity Fair calls the “real icing on the birthday cake.” The birthday girl shared pics on Snapchat to show her followers the latest hair extravaganza.

The red cornrow piece “the color of primordial lava… like the fires of Mordor” was created by the same specialist who’s made all the other wigs in Jenner’s collection, TokyoStylez. The artist wished Kylie a happy birthday with a close-up photo on his Instagram account of his creation, complemented with “a huge red lipstick kiss” on Kylie’s cheek.

Kylie shared a similar pic on Snapchat, where according to the Mirror, she looked “over the moon” with the new cornrows. The teen star added a love heart and the caption, “Fire red for 19.” Kylie’s big on wigs and has happily experimented with a whole lot of different styles, including cornrows, since the youngest Jenner sister started making her own style. Vanity Fair reminded us about Kylie’s interview with Marie-Claire back in April, when she talked about her attitude towards her wig obsession.

“I started wigs, and now everyone is wearing wigs. Kim [Kardashian] just used my wig guy last night…”

That comment didn’t disappear without people noticing. More than one person jumped in to remind Jenner that she’s only just celebrating her 19th birthday, and wigs have been around for a long time.

Jenner didn’t exactly invent wigs, but she’s definitely bringing them back in a big way. On her 19th birthday, the Jenner little sister is feeling super confident about her influence on the fashion world.

“I just do whatever I want to do, and people will follow.”

This cornrow piece is the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star’s “brightest look to date,” and really makes Kylie stand out on her birthday. Previous hair colors were all a bit more subdued, like the shimmery mint green that so many Jenner fans are missing.

At the time, not everyone realized that the green locks were actually not a dyed version of Kylie’s own naturally dark hair. One Twitter user said that finding out Jenner’s do wasn’t real was also the biggest disappointment he’d had in years.

Some people were disappointed, but Jenner is right that she’s got people thinking of getting wigs of their own now.

Kylie has so many wigs to keep track of that she has to store them in “rainbow order.” According to Twist magazine, the LipKit maven has at least 19 different styles of fake hair pieces that she showed off in a video tour of her closet.

Jenner doesn’t seem to be concerned with the fact that she’s trying a style that already got her into trouble. It’s not that long since she wore cornrows again and came under fire for cultural appropriation.

There’s some shade getting thrown about those cornrows. Twitter use Aisha Staggers made a dig at Kylie for wearing cornrows and sleeping with her African American boyfriend as people go “ga-ga” over the cornrows, while at the same time they criticize African American Olympic gymnastics gold medalist Gabby Douglas for her hair. According to Teen Vogue, the trolls are out in force shading Gabby and saying that her “hair should’ve been styled better” for her championship showing.

Another tweeter didn’t comment on the cultural aspect, and just said the cornrows are ugly on Kylie.

At least a few loved Jenner’s new do and weren’t afraid to say so as they wished the teenager a happy birthday.

What do you think? Is Kylie Jenner changing the fashion world as she celebrates her 19th birthday, and is it okay for her to wear cornrows if she wants to?
