‘Man Of Steel 2’ Rumors: Will The Joker Turn Up In A Head To Head With Superman?

Man of Steel 2 was all but buried when director Zack Snyder confirmed that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was Man of Steel 2. It was rumored that Warner Bros. saw an opportunity to feature the two well-known superheroes and jumped at that rather than the sequel to Snyder’s Man of Steel vision.

Now that it looks like the writing is on the wall for Zack Snyder, after he’s finished with Justice League, it seems like Warner Bros. is already anticipating going forward with the DC franchise after all is said and done. After two disappointing outings in Batman v Superman and David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, people were shocked that Man of Steel 2 was officially on the block once again, especially since it looks like Snyder won’t be directing anymore DC films in the foreseeable future.

After the news was announced that Man of Steel 2 was back on, many wondered and hypothesized what that meant in terms of the production. One rumor that was killed back in 2015 was the gossip that Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller might be interested in directing the sequel. When he spoke with Digital Spy, he didn’t seem too thrilled about the prospect of directing a big budget film again.

“I hope the next film I make is a very small film without any special effects and not many stunts.”

Now that Warner Bros. has established a slew of villains with Suicide Squad, many wonder which one can fit into Superman’s world. Actor Jared Leto, who is invested in his role as the Joker, would like to see the villain go head to head with Superman.

During his promotion for Suicide Squad, he was asked by IGN about the news of the potential Superman sequel, and humored what it would be like to battle Superman.

“Ah, ‘Who?’ That would probably be his answer. ‘Super-who? Superboy? He sounds cute. Tights? A cape?'”

Leto continued to imagine what the battle would look like, and if going by his recent comments, it seems like he’s up for the challenge.

“Superman seems like a lot of fun though for the Joker. The Joker and Superman would be interesting to see onscreen because Superman’s so stoic and morally centred. I think that the Joker would really enjoy that. Superman is just the classic hero and the Joker opposite any her would be really interesting.”

As we know, Jared Leto has already voiced his opinion that he wants to see The Joker go up against Ben Affleck’s Batman, and there’s a real chance that he might. While some complain that this is an old storyline that has been recycled, we know that seeing this rivalry on screen brings in the bucks, or at least it did for Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight film. Considering Affleck is directing and co-writing his own Batman solo film, it’s not hard to see how having Leto’s divisive Joker would be enticing for all parties involved.

As the Inquisitr reported, Leto said of the possibility, “I could easily just play the Joker a couple more times and then retire. Because it’s so fulfilling and so creative and it’s so imaginative. It’s really difficult to think about doing anything else!

“I think it would be incredible to see Batman and the Joker go head-to-head! This Batman and this Joker. I mean, I don’t know, that might be too much! But that would be fun.”

As for Man of Steel 2, expect this film to come sooner rather than later, as sources told the Hollywood Reporter that the studio is dedicated to making this happen.
