Tom Hanks And Meg Ryan Together Again, Hanks Tipped For 2017 Best Actor Oscars Nomination

Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan have once again reunited in their latest project, according to the A.V. Club. The 60-year-old A Hologram For The King actor is starring in the Meg Ryan-directed film, titled Ithaca, in which the 54-year-old actress-turned-director also co-stars.

Ithaca is based on William Saroyan’s novel The Human Comedy, and its main idea is to retell Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey. The story focuses on the lives of two brothers from Ithaca, California, during World War II, Homer Macauley (Alex Neustaedter) and his older brother, Marcus (Jack Quaid).

Tom Hanks, who turned 60 last month, plays the role of their father, while director/actress Meg Ryan plays their mom. The novel was originally written in the form of a screenplay for MGM, but then author Saroyan had a fight with his studio and the story was turned into a novel.

The 1943 novel became a bestseller right away, which prompted writer Howard Estabrook to write a script and make it into a film the same year. Although it had no Tom Hanks attached to it that year, the film received several Oscar nominations and won in the Best Story category.

And now it seems that Meg Ryan is trying to achieve the same success the story once had last century. And to help her resurrect the story, the actress-turned-director invited Tom Hanks to bring his acting genius to the film.

The film will mark Ryan’s directorial debut, but it’s not the first project in which Tom Hanks and the actress have played together. The duo has previously appeared in such projects as Joe vs. the Volcano, Sleepless in Seattle, and You’ve Got Mail.

In the trailer, which many viewers noted had Instagram’s Oscar-bait filter written all over it, beautiful Americana scenery can be seen with Tom Hanks, Ryan, her son, Jack Quaid, as well as Alex Neustaedter bringing their superb performances.

Ithaca starring the two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks, premiered for the first time at Virginia’s Middleburg Film Festival last October, but it officially hits U.S. theaters on September 9.

Tom Hanks is one of the greatest actors of his generation, according to We Got This Covered. Over the 36 long years in his acting career, the 60-year-old actor has nailed pretty much all of his roles in various genres – drama, comedy, thriller, and sci-fi.

A Hologram For The King, the comedy-drama released earlier this year, featured Tom Hanks’ excellent performance playing a desperate businessperson who struggles to find balance in his life and is anxious about his personal life.

In October this year, the world will witness the premiere of Inferno starring Tom Hanks. It will be the third installment about the Da Vinci Code character Robert Langdon. In the sci-fi thriller adapted from Dan Brown’s novel of the same name, Hanks is seen all around Europe, solving riddles to save humanity.

But more excitedly the world awaits the premiere of Sully, which hits theaters on December 2. This is the project that many film critics predict will land multiple Academy Awards nominations, including one in the best actor category for Tom Hanks.

Sully tells the story of Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, who saved the lives of 155 people on board US Airways Flight 1549 in January, 2009, by safely landing it on the Hudson River in New York City.

And there isn’t really an actor today that could nail the role better than Tom Hanks. The 60-year-old actor has been nominated in the Academy Awards’ best actor category five times, for movies Big, Philadelphia, Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan, and Cast Away.

Although Tom Hanks was snubbed at the 2014 Oscars for his role in Captain Phillips, it’s believed that his role in Sully will be a mix between his roles in Saving Private Ryan and Captain Phillips.
