Nina Dobrev Return Confirmed In ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 8

The Vampire Diaries Season 8 is bringing Nina Dobrev back for one last time.

Ever since the news of The CW’s supernatural show getting canceled after Season 8 got confirmed by show’s creators and stars, fans of TVD have been wondering at a possible reunion of Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder.

So much speculation has been done, but nothing so far confirmed her return. Until now!

Fans of TVD know that the supernatural series is adapted from the vampire horror series of novels created by L. J. Smith, and it follows the story of Elena Gilbert (played by Dobrev in the TV series), a young high school girl who finds herself falling for two vampire brothers, Stefan (played by Paul Wesley) and Damon Salvatore (played by Somerhalder).

The first seven books in the series were penned by Smith, books 8-10 were penned by an unknown ghostwriter, and the last three parts were written by Aubrey Clark. The last book in the series, entitled The Salvation: Unmasked, reflects the ongoing storyline of the TV series.

The Salvation: Unmasked follows the story of Damon when he put Elena’s life at risk to avenge his brother’s death. While doing so, he breaks the sacred deal he’d earlier made with the Guardians. Now, according to the rules, Elena should be dead, but instead, the Guardians offer Elena a once-in-a-lifetime chance to start over.

That being said, the story then shows the consequences of what will actually happen if Elena will choose to start everything from the beginning, from her high school days, when for the first time she met Damon and Stefan.

As the TV series is coming to an end, this should be the perfect end of the celebrated supernatural series, and it indeed confirms that Dobrev will indeed come back despite her busy schedule.

On the other hand, there is no mention of the Guardians in the TV series. So, if the story will deviate from the novel,m then there are chances that Dobrev may not return after all.

That being said, there are also several reports that suggest that if Dobrev will make her comeback, then she is not going to come back as Elena and instead she is going to portray a different character. During her conversation with E! News, Kat Graham teased the viewers about a new female villain in Season 8.

“The villain, as of right now, is this amazing female bada**. It’s going to be good,” she teased.

Apart from Graham, show’s co-creator Julie Plec also revealed that they are indeed going to try to bring back Dobrev. During their presence at San Diego Comic-Con 2016, Plec confirmed that when xXx: Return of Xander Cage star left the show, she made a promise that she will indeed come back when the series will come to an end.

“Not to put too much pressure on anything Nina Dobrev, but a promise was made. An emotional promise that I’d like to see come to life.”

Although even Plec thinks that it is going to be hard for the team to bring Dobrev back to the show, as after leaving TVD after Season 6, the Bulgarian actress got tons of films offer and she has a very busy schedule ahead of her. During her earlier conversation with TV Line, the 44-year-old Plec stated that it is all up to Dobrev whether she wants to return to the show or not, but as a friend, she is going to give her best to bring her back.

“In my opinion, she was very clear about what she wanted the next step in her life to be, and she’s doing a great job of achieving that. So I’m sticking with my side of the plan, which is to bring her back at the very end,” she further added.

The Vampire Diaries Season 8 will premiere on Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. on The CW and it will be around the same time when the viewers will get to know whether Nina Dobrev is returning or not.
