WWE Rumors And Spoilers: Conor McGregor To Join The WWE?
One of the most interesting WWE rumors to come out of the camp, especially as we prepare for SummerSlam in a few weeks, is that controversial MMA star Conor McGregor will be joining the WWE roster.
That bit of speculation is courtesy of Sky Sports, who came up with one of the craziest WWE rumors thanks to the recent virtual smackdown that McGregor received from wrestling’s best and brightest. We all know that a new addition to the lineup is almost always predicated by a firestorm of controversy, and this McGregor vs. WWE controversy is no different.
Here’s what went down. McGregor, who is preparing for his own August 20th rematch against Nate Diaz, got on the UFC 202 conference call and took a shot at the WWE roster. According to MMA Fighting, McGregor first sparked these WWE rumors by stating that he wasn’t interested in joining the WWE because wrestlers in the WWE are “messed-up p—ies.” In order to make sure that everyone understood him correctly the first time, he then got on Twitter and clarified the statement further:
I didn’t mean no disrespect to the @wwe fans. What I meant to say was that I’d slap the head off your entire roster. And twice on Sunday’s.

It didn’t take long for various members of the WWE roster to take to the Internet to respond to McGregor’s call-out, with legendary wrestler Ric Flair (wooooo!) screaming the loudest:
Coming from a guy who built a career copying my persona, I expected the type of class we get from Ronda or Anderson. pic.twitter.com/iVoC0Xva5g

After Diaz finishes you again, I dare you to try guys like Dolph, Brock, or Fit.
Oh you’re welcome for your gimmick pic.twitter.com/0qziVjlMav

Yikes!
But could this latest — and possibly craziest — of all WWE rumors actually be true? We’ll recall that, not long ago, McGregor mentioned that he has plans to retire thanks to what he felt was his role in the death of Joao Carvalho, the MMA fighter who died after sustaining injuries from his match against a fighter McGregor helped train. At that time, McGregor told Bleacher Report that while Carvalho’s death wasn’t the sole motivating factor behind his semi-retirement, it certainly helped contribute to his decision. Moving to the WWE, then, would be a logical progression in his career, given his increasingly “pop culture” status in the zeitgeist.
On the other hand, this latest of WWE rumors may be nothing more than superstars trading some publicity for some upcoming events. Writer David Bixenspan, one of the most respected voices in online sports journalism today, pointed this out while noting that the two biggest fights of the respected organizations are, literally, one day apart. The McGregor/Diaz rematch takes place on August 20th, whereas WWE’s SummerSlam takes place the next day, on August 21st. This didn’t escape Bixenspan’s notice.
Dear WWE/pro graps people,
Conor McGregor is a lifelong wrestling fan. He’s trolling you to try to get a WM appearance.
Love,

If this latest of WWE rumors is true, then, McGregor may just be following in Ronda Rousey’s footsteps and trying to get his shining moment at what promises to be one of the most watched events of the summer. Certainly, Bleacher Report seems to think this is so.
