Nicki Minaj’s boyfriend, Meek Mill, has for some time now been involved in a feud with Drake and most recently with Joe Budden. On his feud with Drake, it began after he claimed on social media that the Canadian rapper used ghostwriters for his raps. However, the Philly rapper is widely considered to have lost after he was unable to match Drake’s diss songs in popularity. However, he seems to be looking to continue their exchange lately, with some quarters citing his recent Top Rap Album of the Year award at the Billboard Music Awards as having something to do with it.
Meek Mill’s album titled Dreams Worth More Than Money is believed to have underperformed in reality, according to critics, but somehow earned him the award. The following is a review by The Daily Beast, in regard to this.
“ABC deliberately chose not to air any of the hip-hop awards during its broadcast, which is deeply troubling in and of itself, if not for the fact that the ceremony also chose to award Top Rap Album of the Year to… Meek Mill. The Philly rapper was given the prize for his underwhelming LP Dreams Worth More Than Money(you probably know it as the album that caused trigger fingers to turn to Twitter fingers, with Meek getting so riled up over Drake not promoting their single “R.I.C.O.” via social media that he accused him of hiring a ghostwriter on the track.”
However, Drake’s diss track “Back to Back,” directed at Meek Mill, won Best Rap Performance. It is believed to have dealt a big blow to Meek Mill’s career and compared Meek Mill’s success to that of his girlfriend, Nicki Minaj, pointing out that he couldn’t even have his own tour and was instead an opening act in hers. Memes of Meek Mill flooded Twitter as a result.
Eventually, Meek quit the beef via a post on Instagram in which he stated that it didn’t bring any progress in his life and was instead choosing to focus on his career, saying, “We really only focusing on making it out that’s the only war we fighting… I’m not entertaining no rap/real beef over drake s/o rapper!”
Fast forward to January this year, and Mill chose to include lyrics directed at 50 Cent in his 4/4 mixtape. He referenced the G Unit boss saying there was someone “popping s**t” on Instagram and included the following line, “I got 50 reasons say you’re taking d**k / And it’s 50 reasons I should kill, n***a”.
However, he was put down in a hurry after 50 responded on social media with a post stating it was time Meek Mill thought about impregnating Nicki Minaj, as his music career was already over — at least he would get child support. This is as reported by TMZ. Fiddy also hit him below the belt when he added that Meek was beefing with him so as to look good before the judge in a case involving his probation violation. The Philly rapper went silent and is considered to have lost the battle.
Presently, Meek Mill’s feud with Joe Budden seems bound to end with the same result – with the former losing. In a video clip released a few days ago, Meek Mill dissed Joe Budden, stating, “N***as say that we beefing, probably ain’t gonna see ’em/I’m just pushing the buttons/Buddens on ’em and they gon’ leave ’em”, and Budden’s response on social media was as follows.
Just heard a Meek snippet where he’s “dissing” me… Spoiler alert, he also mentions a Rolex… Sounds hard tho.— Joe Budden (@JoeBudden) July 26, 2016
Given Meek’s unsuccessful history of feuding with rappers, he is likely to hurt his career even more exchanging diss tracks with the likes of Joe Budden. This is considering that Joe is not really a heavyweight in the hip hop industry and has everything to gain from this.
