‘Outlander’ Star Sam Heughan Reveals The Character He Is Most Excited To Meet In Season 3 ‘Voyager’

New characters will join Outlander’s third season when the hit show returns next year.

While fans are excited to see Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) interact with some new faces, there is one new character that Heughan is really looking forward to meeting.

According to Cinema Blend, the actor can’t wait to see John Grey in action in the upcoming season.

“John Grey is going to be interesting to meet…!” Heughan told fans on Twitter.

Fans met a young John Grey last season played by Oscar Kennedy. Grey went by the name William and informed Jamie about the British Army’s movements and strategies. He also tried to kill Jamie right before the Battle of Culloden, though he was stopped just in time.

In the upcoming season, fans will meet a much older John Grey, who is in charge of Ardsmuir Prison. Jamie re-connects with Grey during a short stint at the prison and the two spark up a friendship together.

In Diana Gabaldon’s books, Grey is a hugely important and popular character. Not only is he included in the majority of the books, but he even got his own spin-off series that dives a little deeper into his background.

For now, it looks like the show will focus on the events from the original book.

As far as Grey’s relationship with Jamie is concerned, Parent Herald is reporting that he actually has some romantic feelings for Jamie. Of course, Jamie doesn’t share the same feelings, but does remain good friends with Grey through the series, Sam Heughan confirmed.

Meanwhile, according to Daily Record, official casting for Grey has started. Executive producer Maril Davis confirmed the casting call on Twitter after a fan asked whether or not they had started the process.

“We’ve started casting, yes,” Davis told fans on social media.

Unfortunately, Davis did not elaborate on which actors are currently being considered for the role.

Apart from Grey, Season 3 of Outlander will introduce a number of exciting new characters, including Ian, young Willie, Geneva, and Marsali. Each one of these characters played a major role in Diana Gabaldon’s novel, Voyager, which Season 3 is based on.

Voyager features Jamie and Claire meeting back up after 20 years living apart. Once together, the time traveling couple ventures across the ocean and spend a good chunk of their time on board ships.

“I can’t wait to get out to sea. That’s what [I like], doing the tall ship section… I want to do the whole sea chase; that whole section is really going to be fun,” Moore revealed. “I’m sure it will be really hard and I’ll regret it as soon as I start doing it, but I’m looking forward to it.”

Moore went on to add that he plans on using a mixture of CG and real ships for the sailing scenes.

“The technology now, between real ships like what they have in Black Sails and CG, it’s now developed to a place where you can believe it,” he stated. “It’s no longer just the models on the water tank at Paramount, which is clearly like this big.”
