Jaden Smith Ignores Death Rumors While Promoting ‘The Get Down’

Rumors that Jaden Smith is dead via suicide refuse to die down as the viral Facebook hoax continues to make waves on the internet. The actor has ignored these rumors and remains focused on his promotional tour for The Get Down.

The upcoming TV series is a Netflix original with a big budget. Each episode cost $10 million to produce with the first season containing 12 episodes. The series is a musical drama that focuses on the 70s in the Bronx, which many consider the birth of Hip Hop music.

Jaden will be acting alongside Shameik Moore, who starred in the 2015 movie Dope. The actor is also a rapper and considering the theme of the new series, you can expect some rapping from the actors in the series.

While in New York, Jaden Smith sat down with Good Morning America host Robin Robbins to talk about the Netflix original. He discussed its historical significance and the fact that most millennials are not aware of the history behind Hip Hop music.

The Karate Kid actor also discussed his Louis Vuitton campaign where he wore women’s clothes. Jaden hopes that it encourages kids to feel comfortable wearing what they want and that he is making a stance against bullying.

His father Will Smith, who is the star of Suicide Squad, has discussed his son’s eccentric style of fashion earlier this year. In an interview with BBC 1Xtra, the “Summertime” rapper praised his son for wearing what he feels despite gender norms, he describes his son’s fashion sense as part of his artistic temperament.

“Jaden is 100 percent fearless, he will do anything. As a parent it’s scary, it’s really terrifying, but he is completely willing to live and die by his artistic decisions and he doesn’t concern himself with what people think.”

While many critics have questioned Jaden’s sexuality, the rapper and actor is in a relationship with 21-year-old Sarah Synder. The couple has been subject to cheating allegations this week, but the pair were spotted together in New York.

The 18-year-old star has followed his father’s footsteps by juggling both a rap and acting career. The Get Down will be his first acting gig since he starred alongside his father in After Earth.

Jaden has received praise as well as criticism for challenging gender norms in his Louis Vuitton campaign. His sister Willow praised her brother, and she has also spoken against gender norms.

In a British GQ interview, Jaden talked about the ad campaign and what he thinks about gender.

“I feel like people are kind of confused about gender norms. I feel like people don’t really get it,” the 17-year-old son of Will and Jada Smith told the magazine. “I’m not saying that I get it, I’m just saying that I’ve never seen any distinction. I don’t see man clothes and woman clothes, I just see scared people and comfortable people.”

The first six episodes of The Get Down will air next week on August 12. The series has received early reviews, and it looks like it will meet expectations. Metacritic scored the series 77 percent based on 6 reviews.

The Get Down has the chance to join other successful Netflix originals, such as Daredevil House of Cards and Orange is the New Black.

The series is set to release a soundtrack that features tracks from Hip Hop legend Nas, who is also an executive producer on the show. The Baz Luhrmann-directed series starring Jaden Smith is also a romantic tale taking place alongside the riots of the 70s and the birth of Hip Hop music.

The characters on the series are fictional, but they are also reported to be inspired by some real Hip Hop artists of that era.
