Niall Horan and the Rio Olympics seem like two things that should be going together because golf will be played there for the first time in over 100 years, but there are only a few hints that he might be there.
The Rio Olympic Games began on August 5, and the opening ceremonies captivated the world. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, there are many good reasons Niall Horan should have been broadcasting the fact that he is at the Rio Olympics.
Namely, Niall Horan has a new golf management company, and he is representing many events with professional celebrity golfers. Of course, the Rio Olympics decided to include golf events for the first time since 1904.
Since it has been so long since golf was a part of the Olympics, it is assumed that there would be lots of celebrities joining in. Regardless, there were many celebrity golfers that did not want to go to the Rio Olympics because of the Zika virus, among other issues.
Despite going as far as offering free tickets to the Rio Olympics, celebrities like Niall Horan were not confirming or denying they were attending the games.
While there may be no direct tweets from Niall Horan or Modest Golf Management about being at the Rio Olympics, there are a few hints that something is in the process of being announced.
For example, Niall Horan was recently mobbed by his fans when he was traveling on an airplane to Los Angeles. Flying to Los Angeles does not prove that Niall Horan is going to the Rio Olympics, but it does show that he is on the move and closer to Rio than his previous location of North Ireland.
The manager of Niall Horan’s company, Mark McDonnell, also does not have any clues on social media that he is at the Rio Olympics, with or without Niall, but Modest Golf Management’s Twitter account is another story.
On August 1, Modest Golf was not talking about the Rio Olympics, and was instead responding to a tweet about Niall Horan’s participation in the North Ireland Open. In that tweet, it was hinted that Niall Horan’s company’s participation in the NI Open was “only the start” and that Modest Golf Management planned on a “big year ahead.”
The night before the Rio Olympics opening ceremony, on August 4, the next retweet by Niall Horan’s golf management company was about golf prodigy Tom McKibbin, and his ongoing fundraiser for the North Ireland Children’s Hospital.
On August 5, it was soon clear that Modest Golf Management was in the Rio Olympics spirit, and they were retweeting about the upcoming golf events. In particular, they specifically retweeted from the Golf Channel and noted the Rio Men’s golf competitions begin on August 11.
Modest Golf followed up this tweet with one of their own exclaiming “let the games begin” and tagging it with #OlympicGames and #OlympicGolf. The picture they retweeted did not include Niall Horan but instead was for the opening ceremony for the Rio Olympic games.
So far, there have been no emerging fan photos on Twitter from the Rio Olympics that show Niall Horan, but the games do not end until August 20. Also, the golf events for the Rio Olympics might lure Niall Horan, but they do not start until August 11.
On the other hand, Niall Horan could have a secret plan and be laying low because he is going to surprise fans with a performance at the closing ceremony of the 2016 Rio Olympics on August 21. After all, Niall Horan and One Direction played at the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics, and some traditions might be worth keeping.
