‘Vikings’ Season 5 Spoilers: Is This The End Of Ragnar?

Plenty of Vikings Season 5 spoilers abound as of late, but is the one about Ragnar’s demise really true?

Although the cast of Vikings was shut out of the Emmy nominations this year, they’re certainly not hurting for roles or anything else. Travis Fimmel, who plays the beloved Ragnar Lothbrok, enjoyed a summer success with his role in the blockbuster film Warcraft. Meanwhile, the dapper Clive Standen, better known as Rollo/King Robert, is set to star as the lead in the NBC series Taken (based on the films of the same name starring Liam Neeson). Katheryn Winnick, who plays our beloved fierce queen Lagertha, is currently filming her role in the adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower.

But the cast knows that the reason they have the careers they have is thanks to their devout legion of fans, so they’re always happy to share Vikings Season 5 spoilers with the rest of us. So what have they got to say?

First, according to Vine Report, WWE fans will be pleased to know that one of their favorite stars will be getting a recurring role on the show this season. Edge is going to be on Vikings, and he will be playing a warrior called Ketill Flatnose. Ketill is a warrior specifically chosen by disgraced Viking Floki to lead a group of warriors in future expeditions to Iceland. Edge, born Adam Copeland, is the second major new star announced for this new season. The first, of course, was Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who was last seen on the hit HBO show The Tudors. But unlike Edge’s role, Rhys Meyers’ role is still being kept a secret.

Indeed, GameNGuide has confirmed some more Vikings Season 5 spoilers: Namely, how many episodes we’re going to enjoy this season! Previous seasons of Vikings only had 10 episodes per season, but this season of Vikings has an impressive 20 episodes — meaning there will be a lot more of the gang from Kattegat to love! In addition to the return of Ragnar, Rollo, and Lagertha, the outlet confirmed that we will be seeing the return of Bjorn (played by Alexander Ludwig), Aslaug (played by Alyssa Sutherland), and King Ecbert (played by Law & Order alumnus Linus Roache).

But perhaps the biggest Vikings Season 5 spoiler of all was revealed by Winnick herself to Entertainment Weekly: Lagertha will return — as of this writing, they’re filming Season 5 in Ireland — but this just might be the season that Ragnar finally, and sadly, dies. She also hinted that she and Aslaug will be “throwing down” this season, presumably having a long overdue cat-fight over their beloved Ragnar.

As she told EW, “It’s going to be a cat fight. The two power women go head to head. It’s a really interesting scene because you don’t expect what happens.”

Also in Season 5, fans can expect to see Bjorn head off to the Mediterranean. As many history buffs and those knowledgeable in Viking history, in particular, are aware, during Bjorn’s reign as a great Scandinavian king, he conquered many places in the Mediterranean, including North Africa and Sicily. He was ultimately defeated at the Island of Gibraltar by the Saracen (modern-day Muslim) army from Al-Andalus (modern-day Andalusia, Spain), but lived the rest of his days as a rich man.

Spoiler alert: Ragnar meets his ultimate fate at the hands of King Aelle, whom we saw briefly in previous seasons. It will be interesting to see how the cast and crew handle this pivotal death if, of course, the rumors are true and it happens at all.
