The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Justin Hartley may be leaving the role of Adam Newman, and the show could be looking to cast the role with another actor, Soap Hub reports.
Yesterday (August 3), the Young and the Restless issued a casting call for the role of “Dean.” The Y&R audience could help but notice that “Dean” sounded an awful lot like Adam Newman. It brought the speculation of a fact the fans have been trying to avoid — Just Hartley may be planning an exit from the show.
Justin Hartley snagged a role on the NBC show, This Is Us. It is a prime-time role, and would make it difficult for the actor to dedicate the time for both shows. Many actors can do two or more roles at the same time, but Hartley has expressed doubt that he would be able to handle both shows.
The Young and the Restless character Adam Newman cannot just disappear for months at a time. Much of the show’s drama centers on his actions — either past or present. When he “died” several years ago, the show experienced a massive viewership drop until they brought him back with a new face.
Another problem with Justin Hartley being able to work on both shows is because they are on competing networks. When an actor is hired to work on two shows at the same time, they often are on the same network. They will give the actor time to work in the series and phase their character out for a few weeks to work on the other show. This Is Us is an NBC show, and it is highly unlikely that CBS would grant him the necessary time from the show that production would need to film.
The speculation is that Justin Hartley would leave the Young and the Restless at the end of the summer. The new casting call says that “Dean” would begin filming in September and is a contract role. It seems to coincide with the timeframe that many felt that Justin Hartley would leave the role of Adam.
“Dean is his own man, who has always kept his instinctive ambition in check and he knows ‘that greed has been the downfall of the people he’s grown up with. Ruthless ambition is not his thing.'”
Justin Hartley has said for a few months that he wasn’t sure if he could do both shows, Celeb Dirty Laundry reports. He was aware that both shows required full-time schedules and would conflict each other. So what does that mean for Adam Newman?
“I’m going to have to do this for a little bit here. There’s definitely a break. I don’t know if I can (do both shows). I try to stay out of that, and gladly don’t wear that hat.”
After Michael Muhney had left the Young and the Restless, many fans were doubtful that any actor could portray Adam in the same manner. Justin Hartley didn’t try to “copy” Muhney’s portrayal of Adam — he made the role his own. Hartley’s Adam is fun, sexy, and dedicated to his family. He’s a character that you cannot help but root for, bringing the hope that he can defeat the evil Victor Newman (Eric Braeden).
So far, She Knows Soaps has not announced his departure from the Young and the Restless. There is still some hope that “Dean” could be a new character, possibly a love interest for Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle).
A few months ago, Aiden Turner was seen on the set of the Young and the Restless doing a screen test with Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea), which created the speculation that he could be in the running for the new Adam Newman.
If Justin Hartley leaves the Young and the Restless, the fans will be disappointed. No one has grabbed the viewers like Justin Hartley and made you “root for” Adam to win against all odds. One thing is for sure, the actor that steps into the role will have gigantic shoes to fill, and unless he prepares and studies the character the Young and the Restless fans will not accept him.
At this point, no one knows for certain if Justin is leaving the show–it’s all rumors and speculation based on the new series, This Is Us.
