Mandy Moore Admits Life After Ryan Adams Split Wasn’t Easy

Mandy Moore may look happy in the new NBC show, This Is Us promos, but life wasn’t always happy and easy for the singer turned actress. Moore, who was married to artist Ryan Adams for years until the two decided to divorce, went through a difficult time post-split.

Moore opened up about the difficult time in her life at the TCAs while discussing her new drama, This Is Us.

“[I’m doing] fantastic! It’s tough. Life is not easy. I think it’s been great to be able to take all of the chapters in my life and be able to pour it into a job like this because it all helps. It’s all fuel.”

Despite going through a rough time due to her divorce, it seems like Mandy Moore is finally getting back to herself.

“I think everything happens for a reason. I think I spent a good portion of the last years of my life really pouring all of my energy into my life and relationship, and now that’s sort of not part of my life anymore. It’s just not a coincidence to me that things sort of opened back up, and I’m able to focus back on myself again.”

The two were married for six years and were famously very quiet about their marriage. In fact, when Ryan Adams was asked about his then wife, Mandy Moore, during a radio interview, he hung up on the DJs. Prior to their split, Adams was being interviewed by a Melbourne radio show when he hung up after a long pause.

Later, Adams explained to Buzzfeed that he doesn’t talk about his personal life.

“OK, so I just hung up ’cause I was on the radio getting asked about my wife. I was really nice about it the first time, and I’m sorry, but I won’t repeat myself. The deal is this: I’m a private person and I’ll be a gentleman and say I’m not talking about my marriage ever. I’ll never talk about it. Ever.”

He went on to say that he’ll talk about his cats, but even that is asking for too much.

When Adams and Moore eventually split in January of 2015, sources told Us Weekly that Mandy had been “unhappy for a while.” The source went on to say, “She tried to make things work, and eventually she just had to walk away. She’s trying to keep things civil.”

At the time of their divorce, the two released a statement.

“Mandy Moore and Ryan Adams have mutually decided to end their marriage of almost 6 years. It is a respectful, amicable parting of ways and both Mandy and Ryan are asking for media to respect their privacy at this time.”

Despite their attempts to keep things civil, Moore did see a little bump in the road. According to TMZ, they were unable to decide who should get their six cats and 2 dogs. At the time, it was said that Adams was refusing to pay Moore spousal support for the pets, which she wanted because the musician earns $151k per month while she made considerably less.

As far as the custody of the pets, according to the papers, it was said that Adams had agreed to take two of the cats but didn’t, so Moore was stuck caring for all eight pets, which lead to her asking for $37k a month. The actress also insisted that he take four of their pets to lighten the load.

Right now, we don’t know who ended up with what pet, but it’s nice to see Mandy Moore in good spirits.
