‘Teen Mom 2’ Leah Messer Talks Anxiety And Depression, Claims She’s Completely Drug Free

Leah Messer just opened up to a fan about her anxiety and depression and the remedies she takes.

After sharing a photo of herself and her daughters on Instagram, the Teen Mom 2 star was confronted by a fan who wanted to know about her potential use of prescription drugs.

“Do you have depression or anxiety and if so do you take medication?” the fan asked.

“I take vitamins by NuSkin,” Leah Messer explained to the fan on August 3. “I don’t take anything for my A&D. I was able to take myself completely off of my Cymbalta, and I just take those vitamins. Which R AMAZING!! I do some natural remedies (: & that’s about it!”

As fans will recall from Teen Mom 2, Leah Messer was accused of abusing drugs after she was seen nodding out while holding a baby and slurring her words while on the phone. However, despite admitting to feeling that she was becoming dependent on her pain pills, Messer claimed she was not a drug addict.

“I have to leave my babies for a month, and I haven’t cried yet,” Leah Messer told her mother during a 2015 episode of the show, shared by People Magazine last April. “I know I have to do this for them. I know I do, because the person I used to be, the happy person I used to be, is fading away.”

At the time, as People Magazine explained, Leah Messer was heading to “drug rehab” but insisted her issues were with anxiety and depression. Still, rumors claimed Messer was addicted to her prescription pain pills, which she was prescribed after the birth of her third child, 3-year-old Adalynn Faith Calvert, especially after she admitted to “becoming dependent” on the medication.

“When I was hurting so bad, I’d take the medication, because I could get up and go. I could take care of my kids. My back wasn’t hurting,” Leah Messer said. “I told you guys, ‘I’ve got this medication. I feel like I’m becoming dependent. I can’t take this medication.’ I stopped taking the medication.”

“That person I know I could be – and I will be again – is just crying for help inside me,” she added.

During Teen Mom 2 Season 6, which aired last year on MTV, Leah Messer was accused of hiding a drug problem by her first husband, Corey Simms, who later expressed concern for their children’s safety. Around the same time, Messer’s second husband, Jeremy Calvert, told Simms that what Messer was dealing with was a “prescription pill problem.”

Leah Messer and Jeremy Calvert ended their marriage during the show’s sixth season and in the months that followed, things between them became strained. In addition to their struggles to co-parent their daughter, Adalynn, Calvert’s relationship with Brooke Wehr became a problem for Messer, who claimed during Season 7 that Calvert was favoring Wehr’s child over their own.

During the Teen Mom 2 Season 7 reunion, Leah Messer put her ex-husband on blast while chatting with host Dr. Drew Pinsky. In addition to claiming Calvert had changed since he began living with his girlfriend, Wehr, in Ohio, she revealed it was a struggle to get Calvert involved with Adalynn.

Leah Messer and her family, as well as her co-stars, Jenelle Evans, Kailyn Lowry and Chelsea Houska, have been in production on the forthcoming season of Teen Mom 2 for the past few weeks. A premiere date for the new season hasn’t been announced.
