Fable III unveiled, become a king in 2010

Not a huge surprise, this, considering series creator Peter Molyneux has discussed the game himself, but Fable III has just been announced for the Xbox 360 at the gamescom convention in Cologne, Germany.

It’s due out next year, and will give players the chance to rule Albion (hence the crown above, y’see?), the fictitious setting for Fable II. This being a Fable game, you’ll be able to indulge in moral choices, and become either a cherished leader or the most tyrannical bastard who ever lived.

Your time as king or queen will have to be earned, however. The first half of the game will see you trying to ascend to the throne, making promises to various individuals and factions. Once you’re top dog, you’ll be able to keep or break those promises, have some fun judging people, and generally make decisions that alter Albion’s society somehow. It won’t all be ruling and red tape, however: you’ll still be able to get out and have some adventures in Albion.

Here’s the launch trailer. Not a jot of actual gameplay on display, but just Zoe Wanamaker sounding extremely serious.
