Song Joong-ki Recreates ‘Descendants Of The Sun’ In New Tourism Ads

According to Soompi, the actor joined the cast and crew of the KBS drama to record commentary for the show’s upcoming director’s version DVD. Korea Tourism Ad 2

“Wanna travel Korea with me?” Song Joong-ki says in the ad that celebrates the beauty of Korea. This is also an effort by the South Korean government to captivate overseas fans.

Song Joong-ki became the honorary ambassador for Korean tourism about three months ago. The opportunity came to him primarily because of his success in the all-time South Korean military romance Descendants of the Sun.

Every year, the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) produces varied TV commercials for overseas promotion. According to the organization’s website, Song Joong-ki was appointed as the honorary ambassador to portray the South Korea’s dynamic and sophisticated image. Besides, Korea Tourism wants to make use of the actor to resonate with global hallyu fans. The Korean tourism TV commercial will be filmed at major locations where Descendants of the Sun drama was filmed, including Taebaek and Jeongseon in Gangwon-do.

“With Song Joong-ki as the main promotional model and honorary ambassador, he will be taking up the role in promoting Korean tourism actively, worldwide. There are also plans to transform some of the drama filming locations into tourist attractions. The overseas co-promotion with Song Joong-ki is indubitably expected to generate positive results,” the tourism organization said on its website.

According to Hello KPop, Song Joong-ki will also appear in a new video series to promote Korean tourism. The TV program will focus on two locations in Gangwon Province: Taebaek and Jeongseon. The two locations are old mining cities and are also the main venues in Descendants of the Sun.

According to a report by All KPop, South Korean president Park Geun Hye was all praises for the military drama actor, “I’m very happy and glad to see that you finished your military service and became the biggest Hallyu star. Seeing you promoting even during your busy schedule has me thinking that you are a true patriot in real life and not just in dramas.”

It is interesting to note that actor Lee Min-ho used to be the honorary ambassador of Korean tourism. One notable commercial was “Korea. Your Story” featuring the hallyu star. This ad recorded over 37 million views during its advertising campaign period— the highest number of views among all the tourism videos in the world.

It remains to be seen if the Descendants of the Sun actor would surpass Lee Min-ho and exceed the number of views.

Meanwhile, fans of Song Joong-ki are waiting with bated breath for the actor’s upcoming movie Battleship Island. The movie is slated to release next year.
